I never saw a need to expand either, and I'm a pretty aggressive player....

Thanks for the advice I should have asked first before tinkering around with the button's.

You are more likely to run out of vehicles than armaments. If I expanded anything it would be vehicles before armaments.

I did just that! As I formed the Japanese Armored Divisions that you can create which need lots of tanks.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my query, great game keep coming back to it, but first attempt as Japan, it's a whole new level of entertainment, I must be addicted as I wake up earlier each morning with some bright idea.

One thing that I read in an AAR and which I do when I am playing Japan is to convert the armament factory in Korea into a vehicle factory,
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

What I do as well. Never had a problem with armaments.

As do I. I have actually run out of vehicles playing as the Japanese ( probably due to my ineptness ).

As has been mentioned by several players, if you are playing a stock GC scenario (1 or 2) you would rarely, if ever, need to expand your ARM factories. However, as a player who has reached '45 several times and '46 more than once, I do NOT advise turning the ARM factories off until/unless you have at least 250K in the pool.

If you look at the late war IJ LCU's, you will find a great number of them appearing in '45/'46. Yes, these are almost militia call-ups, but you still need a fair few ARM pts to put them on the map. You also will find yourself (hopefully) in the position of re-building a large number of destroyed units, again using a fair number of ARM pts.

Now, if you play the Ironman series against the allied AI, beware. You can expect your losses to be quite a bit higher as the fighting pace has been stepped up in those scenarios. You still may not need to build any ARM, but don't be surprised that you never turn them off the entire war.

Enjoy!!!

There are too many at the start... IMO I believe this is an uncorrected error in stock and I reduced them in my mod. I reduced them a lot, and you need to expand them slowly.
