RE: Invasion Russia

Post by moses »

Thats 14 days and no real sign of progress. It looks like we will just bombard each other for weeks. I could try a deliberate attack but I'm sure it would just be a 0 to 1 with no fortification disruption. As Japan gets forts at the bombardment areas it looks like casualty rates drop and maybe in time the russians will start to wear out. For now though it looks like its Japan that is wearing out. A number of divisions in the north are closing in on 50 % disrupted units. At that point they will need to be pulled back. The russian troops seem to be doing fine.

I'm not sure how long I want to continue this.

The problen for Japan is that there are only a few places to attack. Vladastok from the north or west, Imam, or Blagoveshchensk. All three locations are close enough that the ones under attack can be reiforced by the ones not under attack. So unless the russian is asleep you are going to have to fight a battle of attrition.

How about the russian supply level at Vladivostok? Dropping fast or constant?

The battle at hex 66,32 continues as the frontier units do not retreat even at 25 to 1 odds. They have to be destroyed in place. Everywhere else Japan is getting creamed. In the North one JP division will now have to be pulled out of the line to recover disruption.

Hex 66,32 can't be saved as the only road/rail link is through Vladastok and you can't move from one ZOC to another. The downside for Japan is that the only place to go from there is to join the battle in Vladastok or march 30 days cross-country and fight another fort which this time will be reinforced with a division or two.

Finally 66,32 falls . I still have two divisions which have been marching overlan to engage the forts to the south of vladostok. If they can destroy the those forts then perhaps some good has come of the offensive. Supplies are dropping in Vladastok but there are still 16000 or so.

I skipped posting the 14th to save time. It was more of the same. Japan is massing forces at Vladastock for an attack on the 17th. I suspect it will fail but I have to try something. Japans northern forces are clearly losing and I will have to take another division out of the line. Soon russia will be able to send divisions south to ensure stop the Jap forces cold or maybe even counterattack. Even without help Vladastok looks like it can hold for a long time.

Yes I know but I have only 15 minutes before I crash so I thought I'd finish this. Takes me at least an hour to do a turn. Anyway It's been a WITP marathon for me and at this point if I try another turn I'll probably do something disasterous.

Suddenly it appears that Vladastok may actually be in danger. The key is the 5 Engineer regiments I think which help reduce the fortifications. The cost has been horendous as several of the JP divisions hav almost no heavy weapons left. Still only two divisions up north have more than half their squads disabled. Russian units are in much bettre shape although the last two days have taken their tool. There will be a rest as the JP troops need to recover disruption for the next attack.

Can't say I'm surprised the Japanese are having such problems. After all, the USSR spanked them pretty thoroughly not that many years earlier. As I recall, that was a big factor in why Imperial Japan went after the DEI.

Looks like even if you knock Russia out, that it will take months to put those divisions back in fighting trim. If the divisions taking part in the Russian offensive are butchered, then the timetable for the China offensive will be pushed back even farther while those units rebuild.

Not to mention delaying the SRA offensive. I wonder if Hirohito really did try this tactic.

Doesn't look like it is as simple as some have suggested. Not too surprised, obviously.
