Another case of “Let’s refuel as far away as possible”...

I’ve given my fleet Grabbers 1 the order of attacking Dark Intruder, a pirate ship. One of the fleet’s ships (Outcast of Monlale Mafer) is low on fuel. So after I gave the attack order to the fleet, I wanted to use the ship's selection panel refuel button. But doing so results in the ship being sent to the Yaselur system to refuel, which is pretty far. All the while there’s a system much closer - Dandalas - which has more than enough fuel to fill the ship’s tank.

After having taken the screenshots, I noticed that the frigate is set to auto-patrol. I don’t think it has anything to do with the problem, other than maybe explaining why it’s low on fuel. Don’t know why it’s set like that. Must have been a misclick at one point on my part.

Thanks for the report!

We're currently working on an update that may address some of this logic that should be going live as a public beta by the end of the week. Please look out for it and test it to see if it improves the logic of ships and refuelling and definitely let us know if you have any additional feedback.

I’m at 1.1.73 now (same game though), and I’ve just encountered another flagrant case of “why refuel near when you can refuel far”.

I want to send Grabbers 2, one of my capture fleets, to capture a Mortalen Sovereignty’s mining stations that is a bit far away. Since Grabbers 2 is a little bit low on fuel, I want to fill its tanks first. The fleet is currently in the Tenalles system, which is the Mortalen’s capital system. I’ve captured most of their mining stations in that system, including the Tenalles 6 mining station, which has 18,558 caslon on-board and is perfectly functional (no damages). So it has more than enough fuel to refill Grabbers 2.

But...

If I hover above the Refuel and Repair button while Grabbers 2 is selected, the game wants to send the fleet to the Sarafor 3 spaceport, which is in another system.

So: plenty of fuel to fill the fleet's tanks in the system where it currently is. But still, the game wants to send it far away to refuel.

The command is refuel and REPAIR.

Your ships are damaged (6/8), therefore they are going to the nearest point to repair.

There is no ship yard at Tenalles or Vistar, the nearest repair point is Sarafor.

So I struggle to see what the problem is. To me, the game is working as intended.

As an aside, it would perhaps be useful to have repair ships that could attach to fleets, like fuel tankers.
It would also be helpful to upgrade the refuelling and repair components so that they performed some area of effect function.

Somehow I assumed that by clicking on refuel and repair, they would first go to the nearest refueling point and then go for repair. But you're right: this is almost certainly the way it's designed to behave. :oops:

That would be great. Also maybe 2 different buttons: 1 for "Refuel" and 1 for "Repair", the one for refuel always sending the fleet (or ship) to the nearest refueling point (sometimes you just want you fleets to have enough fuel to continue fighting, without having to go for repairs before doing so).
