I'm game for tying. I had ridiculous lag issues running the full screen, so I've only played the windowed version, both have had this "magnification" issue.
Apologies, but where can I find add the recommended switch or find the switch set?

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm having the same issue on the same map and trying different switches I cannot seem to resolve it...
It seems to only be during the recon phase of the game and seems to happen more on the Kamakaze Bellum map which is more graphics intensive...
Finally took everything off the laptop and started again. Currently the game will only load in Full screen and is ridiculously slow. Every attempt to use these switches gets me error messages and now I can't even run the game in windowed mode, which I prefer due to my notes and spreadsheets.
Figured I would try again after the holiday frustrations and hassle go away. I also have it do the same when the game is running the turn, but that doesn't bother me like it does when I am trying to move about the map.
I hadn't thought about the map being the issue. I guess I can try and replace it.
This thread is already a bit older but I witnessed the same clipping errors lately after switching to a bigger screen.
You are probably thinking the same what came to my mind: a bigger screen alone can't trigger this!!
And you are right. I changed another option in windows with the new screen:
In the windows display options there is a scaling factor. Usually it's set to 100% and I changed it to 125%.
After setting it back to 100% the game works as intended with no strange clippings anymore - no matter if in full-screen or windowed mode.
Anyone who encounters the same problem should check this option.
There is an entire thread on slow performance which includes illustrated info on switches required to get the old game to work with new hardware and OS. You have to try out the switches to get what combination works with your particular hardware and OS.
In addition to that, I have cautioned that loading up the screen with overlays (like the hex detail from F6 or the air search wedges with the Z key etc. slows up scrolling because the map has to be redrawn each time it moves a hex. Use those overlays while setting up your turn but turn them all off to run the turn.
Ever since Win 10 arrived I have been unable to go full screen with the game, so I just got used to using a nearly-full screen window with the Windows bar moved to the right side. I know you can force full screen, but this is likely to be a non-native resolution for your graphics processor and will be hard for it to handle. Apparently laptops are really hard to get doing full screen with this game.
Like the posts above, my system runs slowly during the night "coastwatcher search" step. I made it less painful by reducing the reports to .5 seconds but sometimes I still use the ESC key to bypass all that useless text (but some players pointed out that you sometimes get glimpses of enemy ship locations during that step). During the day phase the coastwatcher step runs much faster. Someone suggested that night overlay on the map was responsible for the slowness during that phase but it is a blanket overlay for the whole map so I don't know why that would slow things significantly.

I've alway had a problem with full screen so used a window almost from the start. I had to use a fixed sized window based on my screens natural resolutions though. With 10 I can now specify exactly what I want e.g. -pxf1900 -pyf1000. This allow me to have the taskbar fixed and a small area around the window.
Whoever came up with these switches desrves the WitP medal of honour otherwise we wouldn't be having these conversation.
I'm running on Win10 as well and have set the taskbar setting of "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" to on. So far it's let me run the game in the largest window possible and kept the taskbar out of sight, until I need it.
