Disscussions Suggestions & Imagination from A New Player

Post by blackoutzone17 »

An under-30-hour player here and not so much of a hardcore wargamer, so do come and hear my maybe naive thoughts and point out what I'm missing or wrong about.

I guess we all agree that the game needs more QOL updates & improvements as much as that it is one of the most facinating game, I'll just jump into it and talk about what I think should be added or changed.

1. A simple QOL change:
Stratagems sorted by council/source OR show their generation source at the vidcom phase OR use more small icon/ color sign to show their source.

2. General stratagem mechanism:
Not sure if it was just my lazy playstyle or because my difficulty was easy but I think there were too many stratagems unused after my midgame even if I almost allocated no resource to stratagem generation tasks in my each council. I just stopped going through my stratagem every round once there were like 3 pages of them in one catagory because every round already took me some time dealing with other stuff.
OF COURSE we can always scrap stratagem, but it still costs the time to going through stratagems!

How about we make it this way:
  • ① Most stratagems will have a deadline after which the stragem will be auto-archived and no longer usable.
  • ② The Supreme Council now has a task of Archive Research which will choose and study the archived stratagems and give the next same catagory/council/same stratagem a capped buff(effect/difficulty) once the progress is done.
(I choose the Supreme Council for :
  • ① that it becomes less useful as you set up more government councils and ends up being a pure Political Points factory and generally speaking makes your Supreme Council leader more and more unhappy, which is not so fun for me.
  • ② If the new mechanism is in play, you wouldn't want it to be too op and by making it a Supreme Council task, even if you do want to make a hell use of it and collect a bunch of buffed stratagem, you just can't put too much resource in it coz other councils are still far more important.)
I'm sure you can see it's just a rough sketch, and there are so much balance work concerning such mechanism. But I just think the stratagem system is too genius too be left unpolished without more and deeper look into it.

3. Airbase Site:
I think airbase should not be restricted by zone level. Tell me I'm wrong coz I believe on planet earth, there are airbases in all kinds of remote areas just to serve their military purposes. Also how come you can't build a level 2 air base in some spot because it belongs to a level 1 zone but in the next turn, after you redraw the zone border, construction all of a sudden becomes possible in the same spot? It just makes no sense to me. If anything really should be added to the equation, that should be terrain(although it is a 200km hex) and weather, and logistical conditions. These along with increased upkeep cost should limit player options if too many airbases are the concern here.

4.Weather Matter:
I'm only a few games on, so does weather or temprature really matter in military actions? Well I would like to see more of that. Can we add an extra weather/terrain layer into this game? Imagine sand dust seasons in desert planet where random-generated dust will completely block recon in some area, and flood caused by rain or lava casted out by volcanos creating new terrain and mess with your attack plan. I could go on and on about such fantasy. Things like these would add pulse to this game, changing the game tempo in different enviroments of different planets, and definitely add lots of fun.

5.Model Design:
I saw some of the disccusions about making model design process easier to use, which I agree, and making it go straight and tell us what the exact stats of the model would be when finished, which I don't agree so much. In that way, people will just keep adjusting the choice if the stats don't look so good until they get the most balanced and advanced model possible. To me I can accept vague descriptions, and the uncertainty serves the key fun. If new model design UI comes out, maybe make it an optional function to tell the exact stats?

Temperature by itself doesn't really matter for units because all the good armor types also function as environment suits that negate temperature problems, and there's no real disadvantage to using them. And high temperatures have no effect to begin with, except on farming.

However, negative temperatures can cause bodies of water to freeze, and snowfall can affect the terrain. I'm not sure whether changes in rainfall can cause seasonal flooding or not.

That is what I'm saying. More stuff like that can really add the fun and authenticity. Seasonal extreme weather condition also a game changer.
