So why didn't you buy?

Post by Saint Ruth »

Hi, just wondering if there are people here (who are interested in this type of game) but haven't bought the game?
Is so, what are the main reasons? If we don't know what's wrong, we can't fix it! :D
Many thanks, ;)

I would have done if Matrix had been honest about the current sale.

If it had been released on Steam, I could have made a decision to buy it or not based on the reviews.

The forum here don't seem to be very active these days, and I have a hunch that players who have purchased the game don't have a very positive impression of it, or that it's not a game they can play with passion for a long time.

Have the developers played Attack at Dawn: North Africa, which is available on Steam?
What strong points do you think WEGO:Stalingrad has over Attack at Dawn: North Africa?

I hope you manage to get a better response than I have had.

I did buy because I wanted it badly. But, and this is not meant to start a discussion, the price is rather steep and I can imagine people declining to buy because of this.

Somewhere in the twenties purchase-wise feels about right.

Any games that sell at or under $29.95 are a bargain, the standard cost for war games is $39.95 to $49.95. It starts to get steep around the $59.95 to $79.95 range.

I did purchase because I liked the WEGO concept.

The UI is tough and might put people off (even those who are not graphics junkies).
From a players perspective I feel it doesn't convey what I want to see (information wise) and is a little inconsistent in presentation.

I think both are interesting games. Stalingrad has great logistics and Command&Control structure. Combat rules feel realistic. They are also very different campaigns Overall Stalingrad has a more operational feel, with large maps and the necessity to plan and coordinate forces over several turns rather than focusing on individual attacks.

Reviews of Stalingrad have been rather positive as far as I know. And I surely enjoy playing it.

This is why I play it

- WEGO system
- good description of logistics and C&C without the need of 'bean counting' and excel spredsheets...
- scenarios of different size and complexity
- two games in one! (the large scale battles at 2.5km/hex and the city fight at 500m/hex)
- community interest
- responsive developer

- things I 'd like:

- make most engine parameters easily changeable
- expansion to other eras
- campaigns could be made more interesting
- AI scripting could be a bit better (the AI per se is good)

I think it's a series with great long term potential

I'm on standby to fully commit to the game and record my first multiplayer game. I'm just holding back in wait for the upcoming patch, hoping that it will fix the "air/arty attack x recon level" issue - which is also the reason why the last part of my german tutorial on youtube ist still missing (I wanted to explain recon/Intel and air and arty attacks, but I couldn't figure it out myself...). The documentation is not ideal (but it really helps that the devs are very responsive in the forum!) and the game had some issues/bugs, but as soon as they're ironed out, I'm ready to go! :D

Cheers, what other information would you like to see?

I didn't buy yet, because the scale is too large for my taste, too much work. But I am fascinated by the system, and follow the stream of Der Hobby General, who plays it for me, while I can relax and watch.

But I will almost certainly buy it in the future, at a sale, to express my appreciation for your nice work. And then it will join my collection of unplayed games, like the Decisive Campaigns series, where I only played the small Netherlands scenario, or the Strategic Command series, or Warplan...

In the end I will buy it to have it in my toy box, to look at it, and to fantasize that I will maybe once play it.

The only thing holding me back from buying is not having received my anniversary coupon. Will purchase immediately it it ever arrives.

I bought Desert War and was very disappointed that there was no grand campaign covering the entire time frame.

From what I have seen with this game is that there still is no campaign just scenarios that looked like they are linked together.

If you are going to redo Desert War please make a single scenario that covers the entire campaign. Then I will buy :) Hopefully people that bought the original game can get a discount :D
