[1.05b4] Militia models not marked in view

Post by Malevolence »

Per the image, as the militia begins to use player created models nothing identifies those as militia. This images displays a mix of player units and militia units of varying experience.

The tooltip for each will oddly comment on the experience of player units and separately describe each militia units origin zone.

As an aside, despite the game's other commands denying upgrades, the player can upgrade militia units and reorganize them via a SHQ. It requires moving the militia unit back to the SHQ and transferring models into the SHQ first.

Device is Windows 10 Pro 64bit, version 2004 (v19041.421), Intel i7-1065G7 1.30Ghz, 16GB RAM. It is a Surface Pro 7, connected to 2560x1600 display monitor via USB-C. Intel Iris Plus integrated graphics.

For reference, Game Build v 1.05-beta1; Scenario Build 1.05-beta1; Last Game Build used 1.05-beta1; Scenario Version Number #53.

Thanks Mal,

The loophole with the Militia troops will be closed in beta4.

You can distinguish the Militia from Regular based on the fact if the portrait of the troops is wearing an uniform.

best wishes,
Vic

I understand the intent behind making militia units fully independent.

I note, however, on large maps it fills the game small inconsequential pieces that ultimately slow the game.

Consider the player's ability to disband such units to clean up the board.

Militia are really helpful in the early game, but by mid-game, their usefulness diminishes. Would you consider either allowing the player to disband the militia, or alternately, have some control over expanding the militia?

(Edit to add)... Expand the militia beyond what is already allowed by using Strategum cards.

As of beta4, the loophole is not closed. I did not start a new game.

Your quick-fix, now means thousands of militia units are trapped inside the SHQ with no way to dispose of them or use them in any way. Players can still move Militia units into the SHQ to create this deadend.

I understand you want militia independent, but at what cost of tripe for the player?

This is a militia unit, and to me that looks like a uniform.

Meanwhile, a regular unit, and to me that looks like a t-shirt.

Some sort of Militia Battlegroup option would address this. Adding it to the to-do list.

Or alternatively I might make them disband back to Militia Pools if no Units are left they can be sent to as replacement troops.

Seems like that would add unnecessary complexity that could result in more bugs.

How about the player disbands the units and they simply go back to militia pools or population?

A word of warning, you tied militia units very rigidly to their spawn zones. Zones are nonetheless mutable. Consider the consequences. State at the time of a unit disband may have changed significantly.

That might indeed be a better solution.
