We have made a change to the comprehensive patch file that should fix the general problem with the Game Menu and have re-uploaded it. Those who were having trouble with Game Menu should redownload the new file. (The file will have an “a” after the version number).

If this doesn’t work for you please feel free to send me a PM and I’ll work with you to figure out what is happening on your machine with the Game Menu and get a specific fix for you.

Our posts crossed - Greg has posted the new installer, please try re-downloading if you had a problem to see if this helps.

No joy I checked the new 7.9.2 "a" patch over another totally fresh install. The "autorun" files are changed (the date the file was last modified changes), but I get exactly the same "half-menu" I posted earlier.

I also tried to eliminate the "read only" attribute from all the files in the "Harpoon ANW" installation folder (via XP ---> right click on the folder -----> properties ----> uncheck the read-only box ----> apply) but it wasn't useful.

I ever tried, out of curiosity, to launch the game via the original 3.7.0 autorun.exe (by putting it inside the folder), but it crashes.

However, I noticed how the autorun.exe changed from about 800Kb (in 3.7.0) to the current 2778Kb or so (in 7.9.2a) - thus it has been worked on a lot. My (obvious) feeling is that the bizzarre screen that comes up and the other problems are tied so something that was recently either changed or added in the autorun.exe.

When you get this fixed, would it be possible to offer it as a patch so I dont have to keep redownloading 260 megs just to fix the menu?  Why not just give us the old menu back?  There was nothing wrong with it.

Thank you all for your continued feedback on this we are going to continue to work on this and try to get an answer as soon as possible.

We will probably do a ‘hot fix’ for this when we get it solved as well as updating the patch file.

Thanks Russell and Darren for all your work on these improvements, it is greatly apprecaited.

To add to this, we've decided to lift the ban on Herman's account in this forum. Any banned member is always welcome to contact us and ask for reinstatement. Herman did this and I investigated the cause of the ban. As best as I can tell, he was banned for one week for breaking our forum rules and then forgotten. The ban was never intended to last more than one week and was only for breakng forum rules.

Under those terms, we've decided to lift the ban. Herman will of course be bound to keep within the forum rules and I would ask that this include not starting any discussions on the third party database disagreements, which we are remaining neutral on. This is not an explicit or implicit statement on the database disagreements, this is only a recognition that the ban should not have remained in place per our forum rules, as enforced everywhere on our forums.

Regards,

- Erik

We've reuploaded the 3.9.2 comprehensive patch with the fixes to the Game Menu. We’ve also uploaded a ‘hot fix’ as well for those who don’t want to download the whole patch file again.

I installed the harpoon3ANW-UpdateRelease-v392bComp.zip into a new directory (C:/matrix games/harpoon3_9_2

I get an error on startup in the 'black' 'DOS' window:
Resource file not found in C:/matrixgames/harpoon3_9_2/Sound/Loaded media component
and after serial number is verified I get:
Loading Annexes...Namestring::Set: newString is NULL

Hit any key to continue.

What am I doing wrong?

If I read you correctly, you installed the patch into a clean directory as if it was a full installation and then tried to run it. That won't work. It has to patch an existing 3.7.0 or later full installation. Point it to wherever you already have H3ANW installed and it will patch it up to 3.9.2.

I uninstalled H3ANW today and now I want to reinstall it. After installing 3.7.0, do I have to install every patch(3.8 -3.9.0-3.9.2-3.9.2 hotfix) or just install the 3.9.2 and then 3.9.2 hotfix?

Herman,

Let me reiterate an invitation to join us in the issue tracker we have set up to tackle your list. There are files we can't find and some issues we need further feedback to replicate some of the issues. We look forward to you and anyone else joining up to help us move forward with the game in a public manner.

I've already added the new issues you listed in this thread and there is an issue I need the test scenario for and cannot replicate it otherwise:
Fly off the world CTD II (rufford)

Once again, the invite has no strings attached and no agreements required.

You should just need to download the latest 3.9.2, which is comprehensive so it will update any version from 3.7.0 forward to 3.9.2. The hotfix was only for those that downloaded the earlier 3.9.2 which worked fine with 3.8.0+ but had some issues installing on top of 3.7.0.

Patch for Harpoon ANW 3.9.0

Yes, I have read through the new AGSI tracking system and I think I'll decline that invitation. There seems to be no problem in how the list is already maintained on HarPlonkHQ. (http://www.harplonkhq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18)

The previous invitation to discuss the list on HarPlonkHQ remains open to everyone interested in doing so. I feel more comfortable entering data into a system not controlled by AGSI, as I've previously stated to Mr. Gilman. Past experience has shown me that this is the best way to proceed. I know that all the list contributors wish Darren Buckley and Russel Sharp success with their Mantis bug-tracking system. Test files for the List of Issues such as:

Fly off the world CTD II

have already been posted to HarPlonkHQ. Although membership is required for download, it has never been denied to anyone (except 'bots). If there are any files missing or lacking, please do not hesitate to mention them and they will be found forthwith.

I pubicly guaruntee that your input on the project will not be censored. Still, if we cannot find a middle ground then we will forced to duplicate our efforts.

There seems to be an issue with HarplonkHQ not accepting my gmail account. I'll PM you the e-mail. Please set up an account under the user name Russell and I can start working on these issues.

Russell,

I created an account for you on HarplonkHQ, but under another username (you can see it in the PM I sent to you). I saw your post only now

Sorry. However, you can change your username from the control panel if you wish [:)]

Check the PM for the other details.

We also invite anyone else to give their input on issues. There are several issues we have marked as needing feedback because of missing test scenarios or our not being able to reproduce them. Further, the public can now report issues they encounter using this issue tracker under the Public project. You can switch projects using the drop-down list in the upper right corner of the web application.

We want to establish a public and even-handed approach to handling these issues.

Anyone interested?

Russell, yes certainly interested. I can currently see only one test issue in Mantis. Freek

Try going to the top right-hand corner of the page and selecting "The List" from the "Project" window.

Yes, I have read through the new AGSI tracking system and I think I'll decline that invitation. There seems to be no problem in how the list is already maintained on HarPlonkHQ.

I actually see a lot of problems with how the list is maintained, including the lack of unique identifiers per issue, the lack of any progress tracking or meaningful feedback capability, the lack of proper search functions etc. etc. all of which are not an issue if all you want to do is save a game and call it a new bug every time something happens, but for those of us who actually want to check if the same bug has already been reported and what the status on it is, it is a problem.

I know from out past discussions that your opinion is that it is not your job to help fix the bugs, all you have to do is report them and then it is AGSI's problem to fix them, but as far as workload goes, maintaining the separate list is undoubtedly much more work than using the Mantis system, so what it comes down to is whether you are maintaining the list to help the game or to spite AGSI. Whether you want to see the bugs fixed and the list reduced or whether you are actually hoping for the list to grow.
