Linux Draw Error (Steam OS/Pop OS) - Any Workaround?

Post by cptbryan »

I recently tried playing Strategic Command WWII: War in the Pacific on both my desktop running Pop OS and on my Steam Deck and after about the first turn or so, I receive the error attached in the screenshot (FAILED(draw_estimated_combat_losses_hover_text_to_screen) and the game crashes. My desktop specs are an RTX 4080/i9-11900k/32gb DDR4/Pop OS 22.04 LTS. Has anyone run into this before with any of the other SC games and know of a workaround? I've never had great luck running these games on Linux before, but ACW was at least playable.

If you can install the Windows Segoe UI family of fonts, the game should run fine after that... unofficially this is the feedback I've heard from similar attempts to run the Strategic Command games on Linux.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

Try adding Orator std font as well to see if that helps

Welp, after waiting a few months still no apparent fix, including the one mentioned right above me. Anybody have any other ideas?

We are working on a fix for this, that will also include the game working for Steam Deck... apologies for any delay, but we are closing in on it.

Oh that's really great news that you're trying to get the game working on Steam Deck!

Is the same thing planned for all the modern/recent Strategic Command titles? So, World at War, War in Europe, World War 1, and American Civil War as well?

If so, that is fantastic and I'm eagerly awaiting that to come to fruition!

It looks like we are having success with Steam Deck and if this all works as planned, then yes, all the other SC3 games should then work the same way on Steam Deck as well indeed :D

Hi team,

I know this is perhaps not the best thread to ask this in, but it is a thread to do so...

Any updates on other Strategic Command titles being made Deck-compatible besides 'War in the Pacific'?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

They will be getting the same update, we just cannot say when it will be at the moment.
