But never beer & pretzels! [:D]

Seriously, if anybody should know the answer to your Wine question, I should, me being a Linux geek. It's been on my to-do list to investigate this, but I keep adding things to the top of the list! So I can't say for sure, but...

In the past, I have run under Wine the John Tiller games

[*]Battleground Series (the ACW & Napoleonic Wars series)
[*]HPS American Civil War series

with complete success. The Campaign Series game engine is similar, so I suspect it should work.

That said, it's still hit-or-miss. One version of Wine works, then the next Wine revision breaks it. You never know. Your best bet is to find a compatible Wine version, set up the game with that version, then virtualize it.

Good luck.

I just tried it with Wine 1.62 under LinuxMint 17.1 Mate. After I remembered to load the C++ everything loaded fine. After playing for a while it threw an error code and the game closed.

Tried it again with same campaign, same scenario. Same result. The first error message is attached. Any help figuring out the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to stop using Windows, but not without my favorite game!

Cheers,

Mike H.

Maybe run a virtualized Windows 7 (or whatever) in Oracle VirtualBox (my preference) on your Linux host?

(I currently run two virtualized Linux web servers on an OpenSUSE Linux host, also a Windows 7 host. In the past, I've run virtualized Windows XP on a Windows 7 host with complete success.)

As for running the game in Linux Wine -- good luck with it. I have interest in that, but no time! I must remain focused on Middle East etc. development.

Thanks. I'll try that until I can figure out the Wine issue.
