We finally made it! J/A '45

Post by Joseignacio »

I have played WIF many years on the board, but only a one or two times have been able to reach JA45 in the Global War , mostly because people surrender earlier, but also because some player/s cannot go on.

I guess many of you may have endured till JA45 but even in these cases I understand very few of us are playing in the Netplay mode.

A great number of bugs we have had to circumvelt, or edit the counters position or/and status, and some others we have had to simply do what the game wanted and no what we were going to do.

The last impulse, I guess as a dessert, the game got stuck when I decided, at the end of this turn, to liberate France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, so I simply had to NOT liberate them, fortunately, since this is the end of the game it has no relevance, but it would have had, had it happened earlier.

I, as an allied player, screw with Turkey and Egypt/Palestina/Irak, but anyway conquered Italy, got to the outskirts of Germany, including two paradrops in Munich (and one in Belgrade) all failed, and would most probably have conquered Japan if being so nervous I hadnt left OOS all my units in Japan itself, Philippines and Rabaul. But I lost.

Here a is the proof we did it in spite of "the elements" :

Congratulations.

I have never made it to '45 face-to-face; one side or the other always surrendered first.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Impressive achievement.

Have there been bids at game start for both sides?

Congrats on getting to the end! By the way, the Victory Total screen listed you as the winner.

My first WIF game and I finished it. Despite having played many other PC war games, WIF overwhelms the rest. José Ignacio, as an expert player, has helped and warned me when some lack of knowledge of the rules could be fatal for me. His ability to edit the game has also been fundamental on the numerous occasions when WIF put us in a dead end. For me the key is knowing how to enjoy the game even when you can only defend yourself and delay the inevitable defeat. We started in November 2020 with version 3 and finished in February 2024 with version 5, more than three years and thousands of bugs later against all odds. Looking forward to starting the next one. :D

Well, Ronnie, I hadn't seen that.

However, as you can imagine for the Axis to get at least 34 VPs would have taken an extraordinarily successful (half-) world conquest.

Most board players consider the game won if the allies hold as many countries, VPs, and overall land as Historically in '45. Others go by the WIF rules, which include an auction per country, to equilibrate. And then there is an individual winner and a winner side when aggregating per side the auctions plus the end of game VPs obtained.

Since MWIF doesnt include an auction system (and the sides are 1 vs 1) we havent done it, so what I have seen proposed, and it makes sense to me, is that the Axis wins if they meet the expected VPs that come with the scenario rules.
