Overview of what is WIF and status?

Quite some time ago, I played the board version of WIF. I probably still have a the game stored somewhere. So I'm familiar with what is WIF.

However, I can't seem to find a thread that will give an overview to newbie of WIF, a good FAQ and the status of the game's development.

It seems there's a beta going on, is this the first one? How many are planned? What's the project plan (phases, date, milestone/gate, ...)

Will this game be playable single player, multiplayer or both?

I hope the architecture (game files) is open so that the mod community can tweak the game.

The thread "When?" in the top bunch of forum threads is good for getting an overview of what's going on, especially if you look at the last few monthly updates from Steve.
 
I don't know that there are any forum threads specifically geared to new WiF players at the moment, although once the game comes out there almost certainly will be.

The threads at the top of the forum are the best place to start. You will find links to all the tutorials, AI discussion, and screen shots there. Since the game is still being developed, the material therein is evolving and some of it may be dated.

The thread on the Directory for MWIF forum is 1 year out of date, but in reality, not much has changed as to the structure of this forum. It is also a very short read and might help you get oriented.

EDIT: And as Christopher said, When is the most popular thread as you can see by the number of hits. It is the monthly status reports that are of interest (not the series of dumb jokes being posted there recently).

Oh, and I forgot, ... Welcome! Tell me what you think for I read every post seriously (though perhaps that isn't true for the dumb jokes).[:)]

Agreed, but the title of the thread is "When?", not "When?, and good humor". It dilutes the thread, and detracts from its purpose. As a suggestion, you might quote what you want to make a joke about, and start a new humor topic? I have not seen very much in the way of humor on these boards, and some levity would be very well received, I think; it just needs to be in the proper place.

I have not seen very much in the way of humor on these boards, and some levity would be very well received, I think; it just needs to be in the proper place.

I brought up a legitimate concern (after going to lengths to agree with you that a) the comedy was well needed, and b) was even *good*, and went so far as to *not* phrase my point as criticism, but as a simple suggestion... and you respond with indignation that I'm teh n00b and you're teh uber-poster. You didn't even attempt to address the substance of my point, but instead resort to a a rather weak ad hominem attack.

I just thought you really were better than all that, especially since "you'd been helping with this project for years."

How about instead of jumping on Klingon (and assuming he has a "problem" where likely as not there is none), we explain things like this:

Furthermore, attempting to shunt all such outbursts of joking onto a specialized thread might be counter-productive, especially on a thread like 'When?' where most actual discussion is generated by Steve's monthly updates, and is usually wrapped up within a week or so of said updates."

Klingon, I'm new on the WiF forum, but a veteran on the Matrix forums and would like to explain that our banter here is often helpful and informative, but also quite often OT and freeflowing. There's a lot of guys who've been corresponding on these pages for years, and have gotten quite friendly (many have met in various pubs over the years to cement the camariderie).

Please try to understand that there will be way too many (occaisionally?) humorous interjections just because this place is like that. As Mr O'Keets said, you just have to wade past the silliness and find the real meat. I'll apologise for us all in advance, but warn you that it is a trademark of this place and hope that you can learn to accept it.

Speaking of St. Lucia festival, the Swedish embassy & IKEA always put on a good show here in Ottawa every year. Too bad I probably won't be able to make it this year... but that's okay since I'll be missing it to play WiF.
