The war continues, some bloody naval engagements east of Formosa led to the loss of 1 fast BB, 3 CAs, and several destroyers to disappointing losses for the IJN. One hvy damaged BB, damaged CA and a heavily damaged CL plus destroyers over several days. I don't think the USN landed one torpedo hit...and of course it was all at knife fighting ranges due to bad weather.
Japanese continue to lose planes at an alarming rate...400 to my 50 on one day in particular.
Miss a 2-1 on Singers, but forts now 0.

Also, not pictured is we grabbed Vigan on Luzon, and currently have about 20 units there now...
My turns pretty much are loading troops into ships and selecting destinations....another huge sea lift down along the Chinese coast now. Carefully, since Japan has strong air bases in the region, which is an opportunity I have managed to exploit so far in extreme IJ losses.
Jan 44 and the B29 starts to show up. Some prelim recon on western Honshu show many promising targets.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, only have the replay.

Another large IJN task force managed to evade three USN SAGs....AMCs, xaps, etc, etc near Swatow along the Chinese coast. Pretty disappointing....but we just slug away.CaptBeefheart wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 2:16 am Looking good overall.

Slowly figuring out how to use the USN....here a patrolling SAG with 5 reaction moves out and engages an IJN Desron 4 times during the day to sink all three enemy ships. Well done! SBDs and Avengers team up to sink another enemy destroyer west of Sorong.

Another good day in the air....plus more aircraft shot down while failing to attack our carrier groups.
IJN had two SAGs NE of Iriomote that turned around....

Was in Boston for the week....so I had to go see this beauty.
Built in 1943 in San Pedro, California, USS Cassin Young is one of 175 Fletcher-class destroyers built during World War II. USS Cassin Young engaged in seven Pacific battles in World War II, survived two Kamikaze hits, and served another full decade beyond the ship's expected lifetime.

Re: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A))
So, a personal story about the Cassin Young. My wife's Uncle as an 18 year old boiler operator on the Princeton, was dumped in the ocean ..... I don't know what ship rescued him, but he was in the water a fair bit. Cassin Young fished quite a few from the drink. He had uncontrollable shaking of the hands and arms ever after. Nice man, rip Uncle Jack.

Moving Forward....along the Chinese Coastline
Swatow is nice, sps size 5 port, 6 af. Marines will hit it tomorrow.

Lots of grunt work on each turn...loading troops, check ship status, etc. Pretty much just ignoring Japan's forces and moving forward.

Re: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A))
Japanese ground forces don't even auto bombard at Swatow....good sign I think.
Re: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A))
Singapore starts the war with 70 HI though. The place is on its last legs HI-wise.
Re: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A))
Good point....I guess those engineers did sabotage something.
As the Allies, what care I for HI though? Shipyards and to a lesser extent oil and refineries.
Manpower? Does that help with Chinese rebuilding? I am repairing Chinese Manpower on the assumption it does. Feels right.
Re: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A))
I think that the HI gets cut in half every time that the base changes from one side to the other, even if there is no combat there. HI produces supplies while consuming fuel and resources. I don't think that the manpower is used by the Allies but the Japanese use it to expand their industries and to provide squad type devices. I am not an expert on the manpower usage, however.Lowpe wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 12:40 pmGood point....I guess those engineers did sabotage something.
