Not possible to use the game in 2nd monitor?

Post by Diliwitm »

I have no issues with laptop main screen so far, but game is not responsive in 2nd monitor. It seems the click i do in a menu is retained because when i drag the game to main monitor it registers.

Win 10 pro, RTX3060 GPU.

Not on mine either but it's an old game and was never set up to be able to so. Don't know if the switches will help.

I just hooked up a 2nd monitor a couple of days ago. It is a, well, game-changer.

So far as I can tell, WITP only works when it is displayed on what is identified in Windows as the "main display." You can make your second monitor the main display by going to settings --> display. Then click on what likely appears as the #2 monitor (making it blue), and then put a check mark next to "Make this my main display."

Also, my laptop & secondary monitors have different resolutions, but that is okay. You just need to make sure that WITP is set up to display in a way consistent with your second monitor.

Further, I found that WITP (if used on the second monitor) must be started when the monitor is already active. Otherwise, in my case, WITP won't necessary respond to mouse clicks after it is dragged to the second monitor. If the second monitor is identified as the "main monitor," when when WITP starts up, it will appear on the secondary monitor.

Excellent i will try this out,

Another problem is when i put the game in full mode instead of windowed it just makes the other display impossible to click so i will have to put it in windowed mode.

My secondary display also have different res, instead 1920x1080 it is 1920x1200 .

I hope the above works in Windows 10, but I'm not sure what the relevant display screens look like in Windows 10. I use Windows 11 on a laptop with a Ryzen 7 pro CPU with Radeon 780M Graphics & 16 GB of RAM, so your experience might be different than mine.

What I've found is that if the screen goes blank (either because I shut the laptop or I go away from the computer for a bit and the screen auto-blanks), WITP sometimes freezes when the screen is revived. All other apps on either monitor function properly; the problem appears to be specific to WITP on the secondary monitor running as the main display.

As a result, I make sure I save the game whenever I leave the computer or shut the laptop lid. Other than that, everything seems okay with WITP.

I wonder if the problem is that Windows hogs CPU1 and any other program running on it is affected accordingly. I found that using the -cpu3 switch reduced my game hang-up problems to virtually nil.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot.

In any case, I'm used to saving the game quite frequently:I have cats that apparently act on directions issued by the Japanese embassy to engage in sabotage by walking across the keyboard, occasionally causing interesting consequences.

Here's my new switches when I use a second monitor:
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -SingleCpuOrders -cpu3 -wd -pxf1920 -pyf1080 -deepColor -dd_sw -altFont -skipVideo -archive

I found reducing the -pxf1900 -pyf1000 size to this gives a very small window desktop area around the widow and allow space for the taskbar to be visible. Either thing allows you to switch windows easily.

I agree. I moved my Windows Task Bar to the right side because that is where the fewest game clicks are made.

My windows Task Bar auto hides itself. No problems for the game at all.
Windows 11, on the other hand . . .

Doesn't surprise me that your's works but on mine it causes intermittent problems. Such is life with PC/Windows/anything but I think the main problem is the graphics bit.
