AKV Question
Its February 1942 and I have a few AKVs on board. But if I try to use them to transport aircraft, it says they can't load airplanes. Some like Langley have seaplane support, but others have just general supply points with an A/C capacity of 0. I tried breaking up the unit, but that made no difference. Do I have to wait for them to upgrade before I can transport planes on them?

RE: AKV Question
You can transport planes on any old xAK. Why do you want to waste your AKVs treating them like freighters?
RE: AKV Question
AKV's load air units as cargo - it just does not have the recover time after unloading.

RE: AKV Question
Be sure the TF containing the AKVs is docked. Otherwise it won't load airplanes. Also, they don't have an "aircraft capacity." They can't fly while in transit. The beauty of them is when they unload they are instantly ready to fly.

AKV is used in Transport TF and will load airgroups without breaking up the planes
AV supports and sometimes operates float planes
RE: AKV Question
The ship may not load the aircraft if they are restricted. So check your headquarters assignment....GP

RE: AKV Question
And to add a clarification no one has added yet, aircraft squadrons load as "troops".
You have to click the "Load Troops" button.
As already stated, in addition the TF must be docked and the squadrons must not be attached to a restricted HQ.
Also as stated Langley is an AV not an AKV and cannot transport aircraft that are not floatplanes.
All American AVs except Langley and Wright have no capacity to carry or operate planes. Langley and Wright have a capacities for 4 float planes.

Port size?

Part of the confusion here might be that in real life , Langley WAS a AV , but still had part of her covered deck left intact, allowing her to carry land planes as deck cargo.
The problem is the games doesn't always reflect reality. I'm sure it would have been difficult to code in this exception. [:)]

Been a while since I played it, but IIRC you can convert her to a CVL in the Focus Pacific mod.

Any option provided in a player generated mod to convert her to a CVL would not fall within the devs stated rationale for allowing conversions in the official scenarios. Hence why AW1Steve mentioned special coding.

RE: AKV Question
In Focus Pacific, AV Langley can be converted to a CVE of 28 a/c, which in my opinion is at least 10 too many. When she was a carrier, she was more like AVG-1 Long Island.
To address the original issue, yeah, to code a "one off" like Langley which would significantly impact the game would not be worth the effort.
Alfred, I'm curious: what was the stated rationale for allowing conversions? I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely interested.
In my opinion (and I humbly submit that it is only an opinion), I would have thought that since the Cleveland class conversions to CVLs were not officially ordered until January 1942, they could have been coded into the game/database. What are your thoughts?

RE: AKV Question
Very Illuminating. I had forgotten about that issue from Alpha/Beta, and how some specific upgrades were coded for Japan. I've always considered "upgrade" as progression, and "conversion" as deviation. I wish I had been more knowledgeable and paying more attention. If I knew then what I've learned since... lol.
Anyway, at the risk of hijacking this thread, thank you for the guidance.
