Reports here are also going down as far as number of hospital beds taken by COVID patients, which is the main number the media here likes to report. Daily Deaths are no longer reported everyday, but one day this week did report 14, which is lower than the previous 25-35 daily.

Pops is going in the hospital for a procedure on Monday. No one else is allowed into the hospital unless tested first. Mamma won't do it, she trusts nothing, and will sit in the parking lot waiting the estimated 2-3 hours. I will join her in the parking lot because they are in their 80's and should get some support. The rest of the family is busy heading to New York for a funeral. This might be interesting, with some family members coming in from Cali and Flo. The unexpected passing of our beloved cousin from an Aortic Anuerism has greatly upset most of the family to the point of losing their wits, I think.

My parents senior home is still off limits to visitors...and scammers got to my Father and somehow convinced him to buy five grand of gift certificates to the scammers, install malicious software on his computer, and put at risk all of his online accounts.

Normally, I visit every other day and would have nipped this in the bud. Now I had to have him ship me the computer, and he had to change all his accounts.

Not a fun experience for all involved.

I hope that it has been reported to the authorities, including the staff at the senior home. They may not catch them but if those certificates have not been used then they might be able to be canceled. If they have been used, then the purchaser or where the product being shipped can be tracked.

I agree with RJ. The gift certificates are likely very real, and if tracked down could be cancelled or suspended. If they happened to be funded with a credit card then a call to the credit card company will very likely result in a refund.

Groom Dies and Nearly 100 People Test Positive for COVID-19 After Wedding in Bihar

The groom has died and nearly 100 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 following a wedding in Bihar.

The 30-year-old groom, described in a CBS News report as a software engineer who worked in a Delhi suburb, is said to have traveled to his hometown of Paliganj in Bihar in mid-May. Soon after his arrival, he started showing coronavirus symptoms ahead of a June 15 wedding date.

Regional reports claim that the groom had expressed a desire to push back the wedding due to experiencing virus symptoms, though he was convinced to move ahead to prevent taking a financial loss. He was never tested for the virus.

Ultimately, more than 350 guests attended the wedding, followed two days later by the groom's death while being transported to the hospital. According to reports, his body was cremated "without informing authorities."

It'll be a tense two weeks here in the UK. July 4 marked the reopening of many businesses with potential to bring people into much closer proximity, some indoors. Pubs were rammed in many areas with reports of raucous drunken behaviour and little distancing, as might be expected. Hairdressers on my high street were busy, many with balloons outside and costumed workers. Everyone was wearing masks, which is positive.

The High street was noticeably busier, the roads packed with slow moving traffic, and parks active with children back on the swings, slides and other play equipment. It was strange experiencing some distress at being in more crowded conditions, which were only approaching (but not quite reaching) pre-lockdown levels. More people were sporting masks on the streets though. I bring one everywhere, but only use it in shops, in stores and on transport.

These two weeks will show if the re-opening leads to a rise in Rt and daily case numbers, or if the current low number of cases have been reduced enough to deal with the inevitable lessening of distancing and careful social behaviour.

I had my first haircut for four months yesterday - oh that feels good!!! It's a small barber shop with four chairs. Each had a divider between them and the staff wore face shields and used disposable coverings. Haircuts were by appointment (with a walk in available. No one was allowed in the shop unless being served and so the queue was outside.

All really responsibly done. This is a small business that has had no income since March but still doing the right thing.

Then you see pictures from last night. FFS what is wrong with some people?

If the majority of new cases are under 40, it's inevitable mortality rates will be lower, but cases are still going up sharply. This disease has a lot of complications that may have long term consequences, and while hopefully improved treatment and understanding of the illness will keep mortality lower, it may still seem more tragic to those affected as younger people are severely affected.

It's one thing to lose ones elderly parents before their time, and it's another to lose parents of young children, ones children themselves. Our friends here have just had to go into hospital with what might be the Multi-system inflamatory condition related to Covid (like Kawasaki disease). Doctors are still unsure if it is this, but she's having treatment for it regardless. This condition can have very long lasting affects on the heart, which is very scary for parents of a three year old.

I'm not sure what the solution is in the states but it's been interesting to see the reversals of policy in many places as cases rise quickly. Hopefully full lockdowns can be avoided, but with the current levels of increase this seems unlikely.

When you've got stuff like "happy hypoxia" coming off the back of Covid (not to mention the blood clots and other nasty side effects mentioned elsewhere), you're absolutely wanting to drive down case numbers.

It was inevitable once the Government messaging changed from "Stay at Home" to "Stay Alert". Using common sense as a public health measure was never going to work out.

What I find an unacceptable omission was leaving opening hours untouched. All this could have easily been avoided if pubs were required to stop serving booze in the early evening for the first few weeks of re-opening. This would have easily reinforced the "not business as usual" aspect of dealing with Covid than the party atmosphere seen elsewhere.

Very easy to say when it's not you, your parents, or your children.

This is not war. The wounded and killed in this battle might have a better chance to be unaffected if society and governments can come together to adhere to best scientific practice in order to limit cases.

This doesn't mean locking down, but getting Rt and case numbers low in order to be able to track, trace and isolate until a vaccine is available.

It is me and my parents and my children, just like you and yours and just like everyone else.

This is a weird environment. Making the obvious point that mortality is more severe than sickness triggers quibbling.

Most people who come down with this recover; many are asymptomatic or have mild cases; and a considerably smaller percentage will suffer long-term consequences or die. Since its better to not die than to die, it's better that mortality is low rather than high. Ergo, mortality is the bottom line and the key indicator. As noted above, and as everybody here acknowledges, vanquishing the virus is the ultimate goal. Until that's accomplished, it's better to be sick than dead, and to be mildly sick than seriously. So while increasing case rates are important, they aren't as important as mortality if the two continue (as they have for months) at diverging rates.

Coronavirus: Mexico's death toll passes 30,000

Mexico has recorded more than 30,000 deaths from its coronavirus outbreak, as the disease continues to ravage one of Latin America's worst-hit countries.

The health ministry said deaths rose by 523 on Saturday, pushing the total to 30,366.

The country now has the world's fifth-highest Covid-19 toll, passing France, where more than 29,000 have died.

A daily record of 6,914 new infections was recorded in Mexico, bringing the total to 252,165, officials said.

However, the true number of fatalities and infections is thought to be much higher because of insufficient testing.

Mexico has Latin America's second-highest death toll after Brazil, which has recorded 64,000 fatalities and more than 1.5 million infections to date, according to Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking the disease globally.
