So reading from this thread, I understand that it's best to apply this new patch on top of a vanilla installation -- but should this vanilla installation also be patched with the previous official patch (Update v1.01.26a)? Or by vanilla, do you mean "the base game without any patch whatsoever"?
Thank you for any answer,
Have a nice day
To me, vanilla means the original installation from the download with no additional updates.

No. Just install the base game and apply the latest update. Nothing in between. The devs have stated that at some point in the future when the last bugs get wrung out and last tweaks made they'll put out an installer you can download that just incorporates everything to date in one go.

Once that updated installer comes out and the map mods get updated it will be safe to say that I will be able to play WITPAE for the rest of my life without having to worry about my save files being incompatible with future updates. That will be the final form of WITPAE

Ok, thank you for your answers. I was simply wondering in case patch v1.01.26a (from 2015) fixed bugs in files not covered by this latest v1128. But if the consensus is "Just install the base game and apply the latest update. Nothing in between", then that's what I will do!

Restated, current patch includes all prior patches. Process in your last sentence is correct. After that, you may apply any desired Mods.

Do we have any idea yet on whether this patch is going to go official? Or are changes still being made?

Can't say I've seen any updates on that. With a game this complicated I imagine there is a lot of ensuing appraisal and verification work that follows a new patch.

There were a bunch of additional map data errors that were pointed out. I have been making those changes, which has taken some additional time. We are still making progress...

Scen001 1128b

When you install the vanilla game, and then install 1128b patch, you get sixteen variants of scen001 in the SCEN folder.
Unlike the updated main variant of the scenario, which has its AI from year 2022, the other fifteen files have AI from year 2010.

Now, as I understand, when you start a new campaign in scen001, the game will randomly choose one variant form the group of sixteen variants.
This would mean I have 6,25% chance of getting the updated variant with 2022 AI.

I reckon the patch is a sort of a final edition of WITP:AE and it includes all AndyMac's heritage AI variants from 2010, but without communicating to players a need to physically remove the old variants, the players are almost 94% sure to roll and old AI for their game.

The same thing pertains to scen 002,006,007,008,009,010,011 and 012.

BTW, the old variants are further divided into historical and non-historical ones. This alone can baffle new players. You may end up with an 2010 weak AI doing some Australia/India invasions as your first scen001 campaign.

So for now, to avoid using any of the legacy AI scripts you would have to remove any aei.dat file dated prior to 2022?

Since I almost always play scen 001, this is how my SCEN folder looks like after I have deleted the old sceno001 variants.
You can see some scen002 legacy variants which I didn't bother to delete.

Firstly let me say congratulations to Andrew/ Joe and the team as you can probably tell from the dates I had to step away in 2023 from the project due to work and health issues after I had done the AI update and massive thanks to Andrew for all his work on the scenarios after I stepped away he fixed a lot of issues and made everything better.

in 2010 I made a huge number of variants to the AI but what I learned was they just made it go wrong more often than not.

When I did the 2022/23 updates I made a huge effort to get fewer but better AI scripts.

When installing this beta I would strongly recommend

1. Doing a clean install of base game
2. Delete all files in the scen file from the vanilla install including all AI variants and all files
3. Install the update to get the new scen data including only the working Ai

I think the issue is the new update only overwrites aei001 -1 and -2 variants so the old ones are left in the folder form the original install

So even when doing clean install you end up with old variants unless you do clean install - delete content of old scen folder then install beta

Well, not all of them. That thread goes back to 2012-2013 so scenarios created since that time are not there. There is a Mods section on this forum that will have info on the many variations users have come up with.

Thank you for the continued work improving the game, much appreciated by a player returning after a long hiatus.

Just wondering about the reasons behind the game design decision to remove the rail connection between Shikoku and Kyushu that historically opened November 1942?
