Re: Update
I have everything on manual, and the game will still send pilots on its own to air group reserve.
Air war attrits airframes in an air group > some pilots become surplus in the air group > the game moves the surplus pilots to the group reserve on its own.
IT IS ALL SO TIRESOME.

Maybe they were wounded . . .

Re: Update
Here is the sort of thing I've been seeing.
The first example might involve returning wounded. That's fine.
But the second two examples involve pilots being automatically added to units despite "manual" being the setting. And, these pilots are clearly not appropriate for these two units as they lack experience and skill. (In the first case, airframe replacements are "on" while, in the second, airframe replacements are "off" so this setting seems not to be relevant.) My casual inspection of many air units suggests that if "any" is combined with "manual," then pilots automatically added have been involved in missions while if "70+" is combined with "manual," then pilots are added with no missions as they must be coming from groups set to train pilots.)
Heretofore, I've been invoking Occam's razor to assume, "there's something I didn't know about pilot replacements" when I saw these sorts of things (as I don't think I've seen others report this sort of thing). But maybe something is not working as expected here.

Re: Update
I have been informed that those pilots that come in like that, come in from the editor and apparently it is when those actual pilots historically came into those units. There is no need to take them from the training programs.Panjack wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 2:00 pm Here is the sort of thing I've been seeing.

Yes, I found it annoying since those pilots usually are not trained to my standards for combat . . .

Re: Update
I guess that might be the explanation; if so, Occam's razor for the win!RangerJoe wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 2:18 pm I have been informed that those pilots that come in like that, come in from the editor and apparently it is when those actual pilots historically came into those units. It's an impressive level of historical detail...that doesn't add much if anything...and just forces someone to shift these pilots back to a safe training unit. Or, WITP-AE: Clicks 'R' Us.

Re: Update
I'm okay with it as long as it's guys like this.
Too bad you can't pick who you wanna recruit from the "history" roster.

Re: Update
I would phrase this as "come in from the scenario developer" ... but yes, it is how you can get a level of historical detail that is simply not available in many other games of this nature. It is also how you can introduce a lot of personal flavour into the game. I.E. add in family members who served, maybe not as pilots or ship capt's, but crew. I've added all my family members who served in various capacities during the war (grand-father, great-uncle, father, 3 uncles ...) in addition to a number of family friends who also served. It adds something to the game when a name pops up in a turn that you know personally.

Re: Update
Given the shelflife of Japanese pilots, if a Japanese player does just that, he must not like this "uncle/great uncle" that muchPaxMondo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 8:56 amI would phrase this as "come in from the scenario developer" ... but yes, it is how you can get a level of historical detail that is simply not available in many other games of this nature. Re: Update
Well, this doesn't just encompass pilots, but all leaders as well. And of course, family members for me were added to the alllies ... But I have added a number of friends and/or their family members, as appropriate, into the IJ side as well. I had the opportunity to be based out of Tokyo for a few years in the late 70's and early 80's when there was still a viable and large living memory of wwii in Japan. I also spent a fair amount of time in Taiwan during that same period, and got the Chinese (Chiang) side of the war as well. I admit, I haven't added any of them (yet) into my mod. Mostly because they are now actually family (in-laws) and so many of them did not survive the war or the aftermath.

Are we getting any closer in our quest for a patch?
