[Mod] Pymod - Borders Mod (v2 - november 2024)

Post by Pymous »

Image

Mod Purpose:

This small mod change borders graphics in order to make them more visible ingame.
Especially useful also for balanced PBEM game creation (bold black borders for Major/Players Regimes and more visible light borders betweens provinces)

Mod Version: 2 (23/11/2024)
- Modified Light borders zones to alternate black and white pixels to provide better contrast in snow/frozen zones (thanks to tonechild for the idea!)

-----------------------------------------------------

**Installation:

-Unzip the Archive (graphicsAlt) directly in the main Shadow Empire directory, or copy the unzipped folder (graphicsAlt) in the main game directory
* It should like this: C:\Matrix Games\Shadow Empire\graphicsAlt
* Or like this if you use Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Shadow Empire\
** An easy way to find where your game folder is: launch steam, righ click on "Shadow Empire" in your game library > Choose "Properties" > "Local Folder" > "Explore"
*** This will directly open the game directory

**Uninstallation:

Note: Never remove the /graphics/ folder. All mods are installed in /graphicsAlt/ folder, to prevent any bad things to happen :)

If you have others mods installed:
- Remove the folders from this archive file located in your \Shadow Empire\graphicsAlt directory

Regards,

Pymous.

Very nice! Much easier to make out borders and not confuse them with zone borders.

Color matters. Those white dots (regional borders) are hardly visible anyway. I've edited them to red.

There is no such thing as a historically accurate strategy game. Every game stops being historically accurate from the very first move player do. First unit that moves ahistorically, first battle with non-historical results, mean we ride in unknown.

Please make any download link, original game zone borders are invisible in some environmental conditions. I need your red zone borders to save my eyes.
These zone borders are more needed than regime borders, for me.

edit: i found your mod in another topic, quest closed :)
edit2: before i found your RedZonesMod i begin changing graphics files to create own version and now i have optional GreenZonesMod too.

This is great, I have the same issue with lightzoneborder being hard to see. At first I thought yellow would be better (now we can have red, yellow, green lol) because it can stand out better than other colors, but then I figured it would be better to stick with a non-color approach, and after some experimentation I think I found one that works pretty well since it won't get lost in white mountains and the like:

What's nice about it, is it fits well with this mod too. It also was a very simple edit, I basically edited the vanilla files and added black pixels inbetween the white pixels. I did not mess with opacity or transparency, just 100% black pixels between the white ones.

Wow that looks great! Do you have a file I can drop into my game or point me at which file to edit myself?

Hello guys,

@tonechild: this is a great idea! I updated the mod based on your concept (alternating black and white dot, but not linking them)
@Khanti: I tried experimenting with colors since the start, same with opacity, but due to terrain color mix + strange results, I concluded it was not possible to achieve a good enough result (even if your red example is very nice :) )
