Cannot fix weird font sizes

Post by Zoetermeer »

Installed the Steam edition the other day and can't seem to get the fonts at a reasonable size. It seems that this issue has been reported elsewhere, but none of the fixes discussed in the threads I've found (changing font scaling settings for high-DPI displays) seem to have any effect. I tried playing with the settings in WitWFontConfig.txt, but that is a bit of whack-a-mole trying to get the fonts correct in all cases (many of the UI displays seem to not look quite right if the font is either too large or too small). I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling to start over with fresh config settings, no effect -- also tried fullscreen mode.

Maybe one data point worth noting -- I have WITE Steam edition installed and it works great, no config changes necessary.

I tried changing some of the compatibility settings on both of the executables I can find in the WITW directory (autorun and WarInTheWest). Neither seemed to have any effect, and what's a bit strange is both executables actually end up launching that initial dialog you get before you can launch the actual game. I don't know which executable is the one the actual game is using, so I can change the compatibility settings for that. In WITP for example, IIRC 'autorun' launched the initial dialog first while the WITP exe just launched you directly into the game itself.

Happy to post a DxDiag or whatever -- my machine is brand-new, about a month old, Windows 10 with a modern graphics card.

One other thing I've noticed -- some of the UI panels seems to not be vertically centered on the screen. In some cases the bottom portion of panels are truncated. Windowed/fullscreen both seem to have this problem. I can post a screenshot here in a sec.

Nothing to see here, I seem to have resolved this myself somehow although I'm not sure what I did. I rebooted my machine for something unrelated, and now it seems to work.
