Ice,

I am thinking of jumping back into the best 4x game of all time with the introduction of Universe (I did not like the pirate thing). I therefore I am trying to refresh my mind before trying the tutorials and I looked at your summary above which is great.

I think your Research Guide does not have the bestlink. This is the best one : tm.asp?m=2987897&mpage=1&key=&#2988180.

It shows how you actually calculate and the impact of those bonuses and how strong they are.

I have not played in a while, I hope those are still correct, they were kind of 'wonky' and 'overly complex, so maybe Universe changed it.

This thread has the list of base troop statistics in it and covers a bit about how people think you should use your forces:
tm.asp?m=3529930

This thread tells you what the maximum stats for troops are:
tm.asp?m=3644265

There's also an older thread about troops here:
tm.asp?m=3121577
The information found there is largely reproduced in the other two threads.

I think there are other bits and pieces scattered around, perhaps mostly in the War Room section of the forums, but there isn't any one guide other than those that I know of, and I don't know of anything on troop generals, either. I also don't think there's anything that specifically covers how the techs improve your troops, but it appears that it's just a simple multiplier to the appropriate aspect (the attack improvements improve the base attack score by the listed percent but don't affect the defense score, the defense improvements increase the base defense score by the listed percent but don't affect the attack score, and the maintenance cost reduction reduces the troop maintenance by the listed percent; attack and defense scores are only increased for units which are recruited after the relevant tech was researched, so it's possible for you to recruit a green unit which is better in some way than an experienced unit).

Note that troops of all species can eventually be made equal in strength, given sufficient experience. Some species just have a head start.

I'd add this guide to component statistics and resources from Numdydar:
tm.asp?m=3624506

This reproduces much (but not all) of the information in feelotraveler's guide to resources required for specific components (specifically, it doesn't include the 'density' column, which is useful for looking at the relative cost of individual components), but combines it with the information in Numdydar's resources by planet types table and adds in some of the statistics of the components (though it would appear that the statistics are for the component when fully upgraded), and includes a research cost to deploy the component as well as the research area in which to look for the tech for the component.

Would you add this under the "Newbies" category? It took me a while to collect all the information it would be great if more people could benefit from it: "Tips for Beginners from a Beginner", tm.asp?m=3708946

The single greatest and most useful post in the forum. Magnificent.

Some things are outdated (well is was like an entirely different game), but the most important ones remains valid. Muchas Gracias!
