Huge New Update for Distant Worlds!

Post by SeanD »

A huge list of improvements and changes coming with this capital ship-sized update

Matrix Games and Code Force (www.codeforce.co.nz) are proud to release a massive new update for their award winning space strategy game, Distant Worlds! The comprehensive 1.0.6.0 update comes with dozens of changes and fixes which improve nearly every part of the game, specific emphasis has been placed on stability, balance, colonies, fleet and ship behavior, and interface improvements.

Specifically, there are more than 40 bug fixes alongside major features such as improved AI and automation, better fleet management, more realistic colonization (including habitat quality) and migration, improved planetary combat and rebellions, new per-ship and per-group engagement stances with defaults adjustable on an empire level, better game balance in terms of combat, economics and technology, major performance improvement including lower memory usage and much quicker saves and finally multiple interface improvements to make managing your empire a breeze!

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “Distant Worlds has been met with critical and fan acclaim, even bringing home a few trophies. This update solidifies the position of Distant Worlds as one of the premier space-based 4X strategy games! We have great plans in store for fans of Distant Worlds, including more updates and an upcoming expansion, so this is a great time to jump on board if you’ve been on the fence!”

Distant Worlds is a vast, pausable real-time, 4X space strategy game. You can run the game as slow or as fast as you like, with intelligent advisors and many different settings for warnings and auto-pause triggers to help you manage your empire at your own pace. Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game.

Vast galaxies are made to order: up to 1400 star systems, with up to 50,000 planets, moons and asteroids. Galaxies are so deep, fun and immersive that you won’t want to finish the game... Build, expand and improve your empire endlessly. The galaxy is packed with life and activity. Encounter other empires, independent alien colonies, traders, pirates and space monsters. Explore star systems, asteroid fields, gas clouds, supernovae, galactic storms and black holes. Discover evidence of civilizations long since past, uncovering secrets about the galaxy's troubled history...

Best of all, you can play the game your way: enjoy a quick, intense game in a crowded galaxy or take your time in an epic game spread across a vast galaxy!

Get the update here. This update is comprehensive and will bring all previous versions of Distant Worlds to 1.0.6.0.

Great news for fans that there is more to come from DW, and congrats to Matrix/CodeForce for the success, it's good to see a smaller developer and publisher doing well, I'm fed up with some of the stunts the industry leaders are pulling these days, but you guys provide proper support and seemingly care about what the customer thinks and says.  [:)]

haven't got a savegame on hand to show it but so far I've seen a small spaceport (standard design) that had just been finished (4 components unbuilt as the attack began, but it was powering up shields as the pirate ship came in range) refusing to fire on a pirate ship.

I also received a pirate base as reward for destroying another pirate base. and this new base should supposedly be able to build and retrofit ships, but the old pirate ships that came with the package I ordered to be retrofitted there are just all stuck there not doing any retrofitting...

Where I can find a change list?

Where I can find a change list?
The beta thread should have it. At the end of the thread Erik Rutins from Matrixgames says they decided "to make 1.0.6.0 official" - I take that to mean the release is unaltered from the last beta and the list of changes complete.

Yay! I know what I'm doing this weekend.

But...does this mean that moons are still named oddly? (i.e., uniquely, not linked to a system or planet?)

thanks for all the hard work DW team!

Still some planets that are named by the old moon naming system (XY272 and such), but no biggie :)

Hi guys,

Yes, the 1.0.6.0 Beta became 1.0.6.0 Official, no further changes.

We ran out of time for the galactopedia update in this release, we will aim to get that into the next update. It proved to be a bigger job than expected.

More news on the expansion will be available when it's a bit further along, but the goal is to have it done before the end of this year.

Regards,

- Erik

I'm guessing before,

Erik is the expansion going to contain things from the wishlist or will we see more of those through patches?
I can't wait! :)
