Hi Goran,

which mod do you use to highlight the frontline on specific turns? I am planning to do a screenshot-based AAR for my Youtube channel and I would love to implement such mod, to better highlight the moving of the front between turns.

Thank you!

Hi!
Its no real mod. Just layers made in Photoshop describing the situation from german Lagekarten.
Then I have to stop the game and add the relevant layer onto it.

If you want to have continuous lines I'd suggest using GIMP (or PS ...or similar tools) and "Stroke Paths" there. I added some pretty thick lines in this example.

Paths can always be edited/deleted and if you have a stroked path for each turn-layer you can easily change colour later if needed. :D

Comparision between Road to Leningrad and Road to Karelia.
From a simulation point of view. Not the main purpose with the game but interesting.
Ai against Ai from start. Here the game situation at start turn 10; 24-aug. -41.
Historical frontline that date.
Dates of occupation.

Again the interesting scenario Road to Leningrad.
Ai against Ai. In that sense a simulation.
Compared to history. Looks quite historical in my opinion. Perhaps not in the Narwa area.
Here start of turn 11 --30-8-41. 217 german inf. div attacks 181 soviet div.
First attack on Tallin-Reval. Historically occupied 29-8. See occupation dates in red.
Historical frontlines turn 10 --24-8 and turn 5 --20-7.
German airfield map marks. If solid colour the historical airfields involved.
Also named in two levels; Fliegerhorst (airbase) and Einsatzhafen (Operational field)(red colour).
Feldflugplatz (field) and Landeplatz (green colour). Landeplatz only showed if used as a base by
a german airgroup during 41-45. Long. and Lat. If both levels in one hex . Highest level always above.

41-scenario compared with Road to Leningrad after the fixed axis turn 1.
Game situation at start turn 2 29-6-41. Frontline 29-6. Both + and - in the historical aspect.
Also different front withdrawels of the soviet side. This perhaps influenced
by the difference in playable map area. But also difference in comparision with
Road to Karelia. All (??) airfields with historical influence are marked.
Can be compared with the ones used in the scenarios.

Again Road to Leningrad resp. Road to Karelia.
Turn 17. 12-Oct. Latest version.
Historical frontline turn 15. 28-Sept.
Lat. Long. visualisation of areas referred in german 1:300.000 maps.
This linked to the german airfield atlas.
Here most of the historical airfields. German naming.
4 levels from Fliegerhorst down to Landeplatz if used as a base of a Fliegergruppe.
Red down to green german airfield sign. Ordinary game airfield
sign is with size. Of course no influence or alteration of game play.

From a simulation point of view. Ai-Ai. 41-scenario.
Turn 5 against history. Game situation 20-july.
Historical frontlines turn 2 29-june, turn 5 20-july and turn 10 24-aug.
In red german occupation dates. Army groups dividing lines.
In red latitude and longitude. Game airfields in german signs with marks.
Historical airfields added with no marks but graded. ( Fligerhorst, Einsatshafen, Feldflugplatz and Landeplatz) Last type only if used by a german air group as a base.
These have no influence on game play.
Added locations also no influence.

Sort of a planning map.
Air movements through 1941 from german side. Fighting air groups. Times and locations.
Army advance with frontlines turn 1,2,5,10,15,20 and 25. Dates of german occupation.
Army groups dividing lines.
Long. and Lat. with lines and numbers. Names of most german and russian airfields.
To some degree categorized in Fliegerhorst-Einsatzhafen-Feld- and Landeplatz.
The later only if used by a german airgroup as a base.
German map airfield marks. Ordinary ingame airfields with sign. Nothing on the map changes game play.

41-scenario. Ai-Ai. Game frontline turn 5 20-7.
Historical frontlines turn 2-5-10. (29-6,20-7, resp. 24-8).
Good result for a game from a simulation point of view.
Lat. Long. Army group borders. Dates of occupation.
Historical airfields in 4 levels. Game airfields in marked signs of german type.
Added names with special sign. Nothing is changed that alters game play.
The german air fighter groups positions in turn 1 and 5 (yellow-white) are from an earlier
version and should perhaps be disregarded.

Vistula-Berlin scenario. Ai-Ai. Here a soviet attack that passes the "fortress Poznan"."Festung Posen"
In turn 5, 10-17 february-45. Obviously surrounding. Poznan fell 23 feb. historically. Game goes in line with this quite well.
You can judge with help of the ingame blue dates of soviet occupation. Kurland pocket exists and
later the fortress Breslau holds out for a long time but understandingly not as in history. It fell 6 may.

Following the game from a simulation point of view.
Ai against Ai. Latest version.Game situation in turn 10 24-aug.
Historical front lines turn 1-2-5-10-15. In red ingame occupation dates from german point of view.
Lat. and Long. Army groups dividing lines. Extended german naming. (names without dates).
German airfield signs. Added most of relevant airfields. Sorted in type. Some pre ww2 borders.(yellow)
Time corrected fonts. Units smaller in a wish to be able to follow all names and dates on the map.
Nothing changed in game play.

Again Vistula (Weichsel) to Berlin scenario.
Turn 6 17-23 feb, -45. Ai against Ai.
Poznan (Posen) surrounded first
and then attacked by 13 units. The fortress fell.
Historically 23 feb. Overall, compare with soviet occupation dates.
Schlesien and above against Oder now main battle area.
Some valuable tiles from Overkill and Jison.
Time correct fonts.

Just a possibility for the map. Could of course be discussed if its better.
Use Jison´s great mod regarding rivers but only with major rivers. Keep the original tiles for the minor ones.
See the result below. Disregard my other map changes.

Axis attack over Dnjeper at Cherson in turn 9 17-23 aug. 41-scenario. Ai-Ai.

Compare with occupation dates. Lat. and Long. Added named airfields but not ingame.

Vistula-Berlin scenario. In my opinion a very intersting scenario.
"Opposite" of Barbarossa.
Ai-Ai- Latest version.
Turn 10. 17-23 march-45.
End battles on Samland.
Festung Königsberg holding like also Brüsterort and Pillau.
Historically they capitulated 9-4, 14-4 and 25-4.
Note the air and high command units on the Kurische Nehrung.
Otherwise compare with occupation dates.
Involved airfields are named but the added ones are not ingame.
Long. Lat. German airfield symbols.

Latest version of the "planning map". "Lagekarte".
Historical airfields are added ( a bit graded in historical size or use).
Fliegerhorst-Einsatzhafen-Feldflugplatz and Landeplatz if used by a german Fliegergruppe)
German described 41-45 and soviet 41 to summer-43. Further naming, some islands etc.
Easy to separate from ingame facts in order not to change game play in any order.
German airfield signs and int. ferry marks. Latitudes and Longitudes. As before
the base map with many changes from the exellent Generals map.
Historical frontlines corresponding to turn 1-2-5-10-15-20 and 25.
German occupation dates in the east 41-42. Sovet in the west 43-45.
