I just do not let the AI handle my fleet compositions. Ever.
It works a lot saner that way.

Whoever edited GameText.txt saved it probably on a linux machine thus getting rid of UTF-8 BOM - new line is now \n instead of \r\n - and changing the appearance of "–" to "â" in lines 4429 and 4431, ComponentCategory Description Shields and Stealth, respectively. Maybe just change "–" to "-", too :)

Nothing against Linux, but Steam delivers Windows files, so maybe stick to the OS ;)

I know that this is a tangent - but after being a windows programmer for 20 yrs - and building endless code to properly handle UTF-16LE for the OS, and build lots of converters including line ending converters - files with and without BOM, readers & writers that supported BOM or no-BOM with auto-sensing code...

I am in 7th heaven as a Linux 1st developer where all files are just UTF-8. No BOM needed. All characters always just work.

I repeat. It just works. Always.

Windows got it wrong. Mac got it wrong. They should just get over themselves, put aside their egos, and get on the UTF-8 by default train. Life has never been so simple and good. <3

This would be a near-religious discussion and I'm not into religions. I don't tell them which encoding to use, just to stick with one, or end up with unnecessary problems. Why they started using BOM in the first place, who knows, probably not even they know ;)

Agreed. Not a crit / not aimed at DW2 devs. Just that your comment reminded me of how much dead-weight I don't have to haul around on behalf of bad OS decisions.

Not saying Linux gets everything right - or that Windows isn't great in lots of ways - definitely not looking to start any flame wars.

Just... a happy sigh of relief at not carrying their (Windows) water for them anymore.

...

We suggest starting a new game with 1.0.5.1 for best results.

As a reminder, DW2 version 1.0.5.0 and later requires .Net 6.0. It should automatically be installed by both GOG Galaxy and Steam clients. However, If it fails or the game doesn't run. You can download and install IT from here: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/down ... -installer

v1.0.5.1 – 23rd June 2022
..
The Link is referring to "windowsdesktop-runtime-5.0.17-win-x64.exe".

After my GOG 1.0.5.1 install, the game crashes instantly.
After uninstalling it (the setup.exe starts immediately, it downloads the whole 12Gig again. Now for the third time..
Nothing works. It crashes.

Apologies for the issue, could you let us know if it is fixed or not?

Yes, it is fixed! It works now.
Thanks for the fast response.

P.S.: Good job, well done. The Range Rendering, the sensor range and the visibility is now useable.
It could still have one more option: Just a drawn circle for explored places instead that transparency.
Also the GPU has more to do than in the version before, but I accept that..
It runs. Fine tuning will follow. It is playable now and we hopefully can enjoy this now alltogether.

SamuraiProgrmmr wrote: Sat May 28, 2022 12:40 am Yes, when you go to the list of designs (Ship Construction | Ship Designs), there is a column labeled Auto Design (3rd from the right. In that column, you can click on the word Automatic and it should change to Manual. That design should no longer be automatically updated.

If by 'leave it on for everything else', you mean the automatic design, just make sure the designs you want to be updated say Automatic.

Hope this helps.
Would be a good idea to make toggle-able items have some sort of DW2 UI glyph identifier; I have accidently toggle these many times ;).

Perhaps a oval/tube outline? Maybe someone has a better idea?
