The streams do not really spoil too much at this moment. I don't see much of the story line yet. And of course much resembles to DWU, but with a lot of quality of life improvements and much nicer graphics.

I am not watching the streams. It isn't that I think they would spoil things, more that I am trying to compensate for not getting into the beta by gathering all my excitement to the big release.
Not long now... :)

There are no major story lines to reveal in this build. At least in the races we're allowed to play. We get to sample the 2 racial stories for the Ackdarian and Mortalen which is not revealing much of the overall main story arc.

This is what I learned thus far from the Streams:
The Ackdarians find their old homeworld, which also unlocks the racial fighters (or other racial tech) and the "Way of the Ancients" Government form.

The Mortalans in some way or another will find a planet killer.
However, be assured that the Streamer version is not the final one of that beast. Nor is the hive.
It is a early testing one.
The final likely will have much longer cooldown. And might not even be able to reliably hit things smaler then a planet with the main gun.
Which should drastically limit the calculated and thus displayed firepower.

I'm also looking forward to getting it. My only worry is that it's too similar to DW1 and not enough development in actual game mechanics has taken place. Gooexto be proven wrong.

With all the improvement to all the systems in the game I say that starting where Universe left of is a very strong starting point for further development of this game.

As far as I understand the goal with DW2 was not to create a sequel as much as fixing the problem and limitations they had with Universe. Once the game is out they can start adding and refining the game with new mechanics as we go forward.

I'm quite happy with getting a more refined version of Universe that is such a good game on its own.

It being so similar is the reason to buy it.

DW1 was a good game, held back by a bad UI and Engine. Which was just the result of it being originally a one man project with limited scope and planning.

DW2 tries to fixes those issues, giving it lots of development potential. It is more of a Remake then a Sequel.

The worst issues people mentioned most often thus far are:
- lack of factions. But that is owed to faction creation being much harder. So only a mater of time
- lack of orbiting planets. Which nobody that seems to have actually played it could confirm as a issue

I haven't watched any of the streams because I want to experience it fresh on launch day. The reviews of the stream working release so far are basically saying its an upgraded DWU that works well and is improved on in every area but nothing really new mechanic wise past some refinements of existing stuff. Works for me and there will of course be dlc so we will have another decade of fun to look forward to.

I am also considering Galciv4 ones it goes to steam if the reviews are good (needs to really improve/change compared to v3). But I suppose that will take a while and in the meantime I can play DW2.

I have played the Beta of GalCiv4... while it is not directly a bad game in and of itself I just can't get into it and enjoy it for some reason. I just are not that interested in turn based games these days. I really like real time pauseable games, they have a better flow of game content.

Turns generally have too many issues for me these days.
