Wacht am Rhein is pretty good - intense firefights and with combat that plays out looking just like what i have seen in bw footage from the that period. Cross of Iron seems to have a poor AI but with the Grossdeutschland mod or Ostfront mod, it is much much better and more varied and active

Good stuff! though isnt it the case that with Matrix Game orders that you can just get the download right away after purchase? At least thats what i have done. I bought both games and installed them right away with the downloaded games. The hard copies i like to get though also in case my comp dies and for the collector in me in general

Mitchell, yes, downloading is available right away but I prefer the hard copy and many of the titles come with some sort of manual. [:)] Some manuals are excellent and some are so-so. [>:] I'm also a bit of a collector, those game cases look sweet on the shelf. [;)]

CC2 was the best game out of all of them..couldn't be beaten..best campaign system aswell. Also has Inf that can actually live long enough to do something. Great long lasting firefights etc, unlike the later games where Inf died in droves.

I can only afford one....Arnhem or Normandy. Anyone have an opinion one way or the other about the two, one better than the other? Or is it just which battle appeals to me? I play solo only, no mp, if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Gamersgate is having a mid week sale on Crusader Kings 2. You can pick up the game and the entire pack of DLC for like 30 bucks. The DLC's themselves are going for about 3 or 4 bucks a piece.

Just checked GOG... dear god, they have System Shock 2 on sale for $2.50! Damn. Anyone who hasn't played System Shock needs to go there and buy it immediately. For under 3 bucks you can't beat it.

I like Arnhem more because of the focus on infantry and the nature of the operation. Having to try and rush through a battlefield to capture a bridge and then hold it against counter attacks is a real struggle. The overall operation is more intense because of the need to capture and hold bridges against an ever increasing force. Normandy is worn out for me because I have played so many games covering that battle. There are what four CC games that cover parts of Normandy at this point?

I just ordered Advanced Tactics: Gold, I've been waiting for that one to go on sale! [:)] Alot of neat things you can do with this one! [X(] Norm Koger's The Operational Art of War III is one that alot of you were waiting for to go on sale, I own it but haven't played with it too much but a definite must have.

I am deciding on getting Command Naval/Air this week instead of the deal, but i have battlefront and Korsun Pocket and highly recommend the system in these games as Battles in Italy and Normandy are the same -
SSG produce quality games and always a good AI and really not a difficult system at all. For a while with the interface i wasnt sure what buttons did what but once i found out that as the game is not one where you have direct absolute control over your units, but rather can just give the orders that the troops either can or cant do in their capacity, it began to make sense why i couldnt order my men to attack whenever i wanted. I still had figure out what all the stats mean but learnt enough through playing to just play a game as though i am work on what information is being given to me - ie, working out an operational strategy - most wargames reward foresight and intelligence but battlefront really demands it. Also units arent jsut wiped out panzer general style, but really can slog it out in areas.
I played the Novorossisk scenario on battlefront and by the end of hte game i was not longer concerned with trying to win but on forming a strategy to rescue my units that were being trapped and surrounded - veteran units they were though and so could really hold up and even try to a force a breakthrough themselves.
