An update on Steam Tacview Advanced

Post by guanotwozero »

Context: There's currently a discounted Steam bundle on CMO + Tacview Advanced. You still get the discount if you've already registered CMO there.

N.B. Tacview is OPTIONAL for CMO.

Setup: You install Tacview Basic on Steam, and the Advanced version exists as a DLC for it.

Problem: While you can run Tacview Advanced from the Steam UI, running Tacview64.exe in the install directory just runs the demo version. As CMO needs to point to this, I worried what would happen when the demo period ends.

Solution/Update: I emailed Tacview tech support and the reply included:
You should point to the executable C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tacview\Tacview64.exe

For now please keep launching Tacview from the Steam UI.

In a coming update we are going to fix it so that you can launch the executable directly if you wish.

So all's good!

Steam has just updated Tacview, and running the Tacview64.exe now brings up the Advanced version. No timeout.

However, it does rely on the Steam client; if the client is closed, running the exec starts up the client first. In other words, it's not portable.

Looking at the Tacview forum, if you buy it there the key will work on the Steam version, but no sign of vice versa.

Do I have to use Tacview advanced with CMO or I can use other versions including the demo?
