OT - the courage of a young US Naval officer

I'm not sure how many on this chat would be aware of the fantastic story that involved the young Jimmy Carter, during his time as a naval officer. The story took place on the Ottawa River in Canada, just a bit up river from the city of Ottawa. It involved a nuclear accident and the work of the small...

Re: Subs - Switch (seemingly ramdomly) between Human Control and Computer Control

Thanks for this. I don't think they were left at computer controlled before game start...they aren't set that way when I look. I seem to be having the most number of instances...about 4 or 5 per turn. I'll just have to pay really close attention to subs...in particular fuel point you note

Subs - Switch (seemingly ramdomly) between Human Control and Computer Control

I'm playing a PBEM (DBB-C) game. I've played DBB-C before. We are in mid-January 42 and I am seeing some of my subs switching to Computer Control and heading off elsewhere. Very annoying. Has anyone else experienced this...is there something we could have overlooked in setting up the game? I believe...

Looking for Japan opponent...again

The opponent I started with 6 weeks ago has disappeared...with no explanation. And I can't contact the other player who had expressed interest. If you are a Japan player and want a game with an experienced Allied opponent who can do at least 1 turn a day (sometimes more) and who is interested in a g...

To those who have contacted me through PM...my responses to you seem to be stuck in my Outbox. I hope Matrix solves this so you can receive them.

Closed - Looking for Japanese opponent

My current game has just had to come to an end. So, I'm looking for a Japanese opponent for a new game... DBB-C or Bottlenecks... but could be talked into something else I guess. I do not really focus on VPs, and look to play the game out. I have played 4 PBEMs (all as Allied) over the past several ...

Damn the torpedos...

THERE WERE REASONS WHY AMERICAN SUBMARINERS DAMNED THEIR OWN TORPEDOES...It's hard to wage war when your weapons don't work. Many on this forum may have already seen this...but posting just in case...and because I found the detail fascinating. https://www.historynet.com/damn-the-torpedoes-wwii-winte...

OT Individual Courage, Leadership and Good Fortune can change history

In truth this should be posted over on the War in the West forum. However, I am playing WITP these days and am here more often than there. I just bumped into this story about General Ridgeway and his role in the immediate run-up to the Italy invasion. The story of his actions, and those of several c...

OT Royal Navy lament

This came up on my music stream. I've not served in the Navy...but we have all been away from home and missed family and friends... "The Grey Funnel Line' is the sailors' nickname for the Royal Navy—just as if it were another mercantile line. It's a straightforward song about a sailor leaving h...

Re: Docking...or not docking. That is the question

What I am referring to does not seem to be related to port size. Latest turn examples are at Perth, Bombay and some size 3 Ports. I'm thinking it is really Operations points that is the issue.

Re: Docking...or not docking. That is the question

Thanks. I will keep watching for that as well. I have found undamaged ships that have been sitting for several days in undocked mode in port. As soon as I find them, I can dock them with no problem.

Docking...or not docking. That is the question

I imagine I am not the first to notice that TFs carrying things that need to be unloaded (cargo, fuel, men/equipment) in any appropriate TF type (Cargo, Fuel, Amphib, Transport) sometimes dock and unload automatically at ports and other times arrive, but do not dock, and then begin unloading. Port s...
