RE: Campaign For North Africa 40D-43

I guess this game shows why the British abandoned most western positions when they saw Rommel's three-pronged attack across the desert, and ran for the hills...

RE: Panzer Army Losses

<t> By the time of Smolensk, the Panzer Groups had lost 75% of their PZIVs and 50% of their other tanks, mostly due to attrition (most were recoverable, but spare parts were not available in the field). The main culprit was dust... And there were huge distances between the fast-moving Panzers and th...

RE: My First Look

<t> Hi Jim, good to hear from you. Since like me you started wargaming in 1962, that probably means you were playing Avalon Hill's Blitzkrieg or Gettysburg.I am not sure what my first computer wargame was, maybe Tigers in the Snow or GG's first game (I forgot the title...).Clash of Steel came a bit ...

RE: OOB Question

<t> If you start down this path, you may open a Pandora's box. It is well known that especially during the early Barbarossa, the Soviets kept making major changes to their organization, many of them MAJOR. Check out "Clash of Titans" by Glantz for details. So will someone raise a protest that in say...

don't worry

<t> Don't worry, I will get this game eventually if it is as good as everyone says; right now I am busy playing the 3 games I bought during the past week, and I would rather get this game on Steam.<br/> <br/> One thing I am glad about is the (partial) abstraction of air warfare. I only put a couple ...

RE: Worth buying?

<t> I had not played TOAW III for years.I had a downloaded installation on a CD, which is fortunate since I could not find my game on the matrix site - I initially thought it would be easier to re-download it, but when I couldn't find my download, I decided to reinstall from the CD, half-expecting i...

Why I don't play it

<t> I admit that it is a good game, but what I don't like about it is that it could be called "Air war on the Western Front". I know that the air war played an important role in WW2, especially on the Western Front, but this game seems to support Bomber Harris' view that the war could be won by air ...

RE: Thirty Years’ War Released and Streamed!

<t> The game is on steam.<br/> <br/> (edit): I thought I saw it on Steam, but apparently I was wrong.Although I have about 50 games bought from Matrixgames, I also have as many on Steam (some of which I paid for again). I prefer the Steam platform, because patches are automatic and you can erase gam...

RE: Questions

As Bombur probably knows, it is possible to modify cities in the Editor after the game is set up but before one starts to play. I did change a city to a town "accidentally" in my last game while playing around with the editor.

RE: Webz vs 1 AI

<t> But remember that the TOE feature only works with "New Dawn" random games. There are workarounds to make it work with other types of games, but you have to play around with some config files (I haven't tried the latter). You have to design your own TOE units, but you can save them for other game...

RE: Webz vs 1 AI

Interesting map. Not much water should in principle favor the AI because of its "free units". Good luck.

RE: Germania vs 3 AI

congratulations. Do you think that 1 vs 3 is easier or more difficult than 1 vs 1? I suspect that it might be easier at 1 vs 3 since the rare resources have to be divided among 3 AI players? With TOE I have onlly tried 1 vs 1, but got severely steamrolled each time.

RE: Germania vs 3 AI

so far so good. The large bodies of water helps you vs enemy infiltrations. You have an opportunity to cut off a huge amount of green enemies in the SW, where the group with lots of artillery depend for supplies on a road one hex away from your unit.

RE: Germania vs 3 AI

Looking forward to how you make out. I am particularly interested in how you are going to organize your defenses. Against a single AI with TOE, I got clobbered 3 times in a row, so I would rather not guess what would have happened against 3 AI enemies...Good luck.

RE: Random Game Setup

<t> I just realized why I am getting steamrolled: I am not using "depleted land" as you recommend above. I read elsewhere that the AI uses its free units, free factories, and other advantages to create combat units as fast as it can, and does not stop producing when it runs low on supplies. The "dep...

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>ORIGINAL: Philo32b<br/> <br/> @henri51. Instead of trying to form a static line that repels the AI, perhaps try a more elastic defense. RE: Random Game Setup

<t> Except for researching early MGII and AT guns, in my new game (with TOE) I got my butt royally kicked by the single AI on a medium random map. My units early on are mostly infantry supported with a few MGs, mortars and SMGs. The AI came after me really fast, declaring war on turn 2. I barely man...
