Also remember that Research Labs don't work on moving ships so you are getting nothing by putting them on Explorers which are almost always on the move.

On the base thing might try giving it away to a pirate or something then destroying it. Haven't tried this but I have given bases away.Didn't think the private sector made bases though. How would they do it without construction ships?
