Screenshots Made Easy: ShareX (MUST READ for AAR authors)

Post by Korvar »

Here's a fantastic screenshot application: ShareX. Not only does it offer powerful methods to grab specific parts or your entire screen, it also makes it easy to upload those images to free online hosts.

You can take a quick screenshot of any portion of your screen simply by clicking and dragging a box over an area:

What the screenshot taken above looks like:

It will also automatically save the image, upload it, and copy the URL to the clipboard. The workflow is customizable to your preferences.

Another powerful feature is the ability to set pre-defined regions, such as a menu screen:

All of these functions can be linked to custom hotkey combinations, so AAR authors can quickly snap appropriate screenshots during their turn playthrough. In addition, ShareX also offers a full suite of tools to edit the images with text, drawings, and more.

You can grab a copy here: ShareX website

Edit:
Another similar screenshot program, Greenshot, has been mentioned multiple times by forumites. It sounds like it will also do a good job of automating the posting of screenshots. It doesn't hurt to have an option!

I’ve never thought the forum was cluttered.
To me it looks like ever other forum on the web?

Tools are an important part of this game for many of us.
Info on new tools is always welcome by me.

Most players at some point are going to want to capture a screenshot if not to share
with others then just for personal use.

Some screens in WITP-AE carry a lot of information in different areas.
I use the Tracker program and often want to capture an image with a lot of data just for
my own use. I can be an ornery cuss and I don’t share much with others..

I use Greenshot because it is free and I like the editor.
With Greenshot and paint you can get an image like the one below.
Useful for me because at my age I can’t hold a lot of data in my head anymore.

ShareX looks to be a good program, I have not tried it.
The good thing about free programs is that you can try them all and see which one fits your needs.

I use a program called Greenshot, which is very easy and free. Like above, it can take partial screen pictures according to selection and moreover, according to your settings, it can do it instantly in w/e format and naming system you want to a specified folder. You can even set it to automatically upload to hosting sites like imgur.

Although I have not tried Greenshot, it sounds like Greenshot and ShareX are very similar - you could replace the word 'Greenshot' with 'ShareX' and your statement would still be true, Anachro.

Since it has been mentioned twice already, I'll add a link for it to the OP.
