Impassable hexes?

Post by Kossatx »

Hi, I would like to make impassable hexes in the map in order to represent some colonies and countries where convoys come from. How can I do these impassable hexes? Any idea?

Hi

The terrain types Depression and Major Lake if used are automatically impassable.

With your campaign open in the Editor, you could also make any other terrain type Impassable by going to Campaign -> Edit Movement Cost Data and reducing the Movement Cost number until it reaches the Impassable status.

Note that this makes it impassable whenever used, for all countries.

Thanks BillRunacre. The problem with these tarrain types is that is not possible to put on them a resource... so it will be impassable but will not generate money [:(] Do you have any other idea about it?

How about if Impassable types were placed around one that has a resource on it?

Admittedly that might make a convoy difficult, but does this income have to come via convoy? Only an alternative would be via using Dummy Decision Events.

The idea is to make the income arrive via convoy... but if is not possible, probably I'll have to explore the dummy decission events you have said [&:]

If you look at the official campaigns, I wonder if the convoy to the UK from Bermuda might serve as inspiration, as all that is there is a port.

The actual resources providing the income to be transported via convoy are up in the top left corner, well away from anywhere the Axis could get to.

Well, it could be possible to put the resources of a colony surrounded by impassable hexes as you said, and a Bermuda style port owned by this colony too. Thanks very much for your help BillRunacre! [:)]

Looking at Middle East convoys to the UK, I have realized is not necessary to make a continue line for a convoy [&o]

I am currently developing an American Civil War game using this game engine. I have tried to make "major rivers" impassable
or at least with a movement penalty for crossing using the Campaign Edit Movement Cost Data feature in the Campaign menu.
Whether I set this to "Impassable" or to some number (e.g. +8) I get no difference in the game. I can move a unit back and
forth across a major river without penalty. What am I missing?

Hubert - we appreciate your attention to these issues. Hopefully, in the end, it makes for a more solid product than the game already is.
Thanks!
