Radio messages

I'm not English-speaking, I don't understand. Tell me please, what do you say verbatim in these two radio messages?

"Radio, raise Command. We've spotted enemy carriers."

"Radio, raise Command. Send 'Main body.'"

In both the pilot of the patrol plane is speaking to his radioman in the plane.

In both, "raise" is an old-fashioned way of saying "contact on the radio." So the pilot is ordering the radioman to use the radio to send a message to higher command that the enemy has been sighted.

In the first he's spotted enemy carriers.

In the second he's spotted the main body of the enemy fleet formation. The main body would be the big ships, not the escorts. Carriers, battleships. In the game I have found that the second message is sent when carriers are not sighted, but that doesn't mean there aren't some there in reality.

I think, but not sure, that both of these sound bites come from the 1970s movie "Midway."

The first one is a report that your search planes have spotted enemy carriers

The second one is that they have spotted "main body". It means hat at that location there are a large number of ships and it is likely that there are capital class ships (battleships or cruisers) present.

Edit, what the moose said.

To a non-native it sounds like this

"Radio, raise, command. Sent main body."

Not "sent", "send".

Sent is the simple past tense of "send", an irregular verb. That wouldn't make sense here.

"Send 'Main body'" is imperative mood (an order) from the pilot, an officer and in command of the plane, to the radioman, an enlisted man. "Main body" is the message the pilot wants sent over the radio, verbatim.

'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' is the appropriate phrase here.

Not sure what that means. [8D]

But this is an example of how tastes differ. Absolutely nothing about this woman is appealing to me. I actually find her somewhat repulsive.

Pretty sure it's "sighted main body" but otherwise yes.

1080.SFX "Radio raise command send main body"
1081.SFX "Radio raise command spotted enemy carriers"

Ive not done every sound file. "sighted (or spotted) main body" sounds familiar.

This thread adds some perspective to the issue.

tm.asp?m=1485745&mpage=1&key=?

Mike Wood, one of the WITP devs from long ago, adds some context about how the sound files were obtained.
