Naval Tanker Aircraft Mugged by Air Force

Post by scottb613 »

Hi Folks,

Just an observation - again - playing the 1967 Vietnam - Downtown Scenerio - this mission has both US Naval and Airforce assets - only the Naval assets are controlled by the player - the Airforce are AI... During the mission I put up a tanker for refueling... Wow - did those Airforce guys come running from a hundred miles away - it was like ringing the dinner bell...They mugged my tanker so bad - my Naval assets starved for fuel couldn't get in there to tank and were dropping from the sky... Finally I got tired of the Airforce stealing all my fuel - so I landed the tanker - it was so bad the Airforce was sucking fuel all the way down final until I caught a wire on my carrier...

Is there anyway to control who gets the gas or refuse service ???

Regards,
Scott

You can change the refuelling doctrine (Use Refule) option. This can be done for individuals, groups or by missions. Uncheck all Airforce assets and they will probably leave you alone.

Hi Pergite,

Thanks for the response - I'll try that when I get home tonight... I'm not sure it's going to work on the AI aircraft though - as I don't seem to have any control over them... They just do their preprogrammed thing and that's it... I'll let you know how I make out though...
;)

go into editor, open the scenario, select the airforce side and then change the ROE for that side. Save the scenario and you should be golden.

I have had this problem too, as stated above go into editor and change ROE for other side. The problem I have with that is when the other side also has refueling assets then they run dry and cant complete their own missions. The only fix I can see is a doctrine change, maybe a new few doctrines such as "fuel only same side" and "fuel any side". Not a doctrine guy so cant even say if its possible to do that.

what if we need tankers from both sides? more and more, we need this feature to be tweaked and upgraded. it's always tricky when more forces are present or more tanker missions are working
this would be the best thing (except from strike planner)
new mission
support mission
tanker mission
Max refueling range: _______ nm
[] Accept other refuellings in emergency/not assigned to any refuel point
[] 1/3 Rule
[] One time only
then in individual unit submenu:
right click ----- assign refuel (if possible) to : <drop menu>
----->[] ARW 1
[] ARW 2
[] ARW 3
[] (friendly tanker open mission) Esso 1
[] friendly tanker closed mission: Esso 2 (N/A)
[]Choose nearest section (if in max range of mission and if it's open
otherwise a plane is not authorised and will RTB

I like your suggestions and have one to add.

Mission linking within the Mission Editor i.e. Mission XXX (eg a strike mission) with a sub menu 'Refuel From: Mission YYY'

Could work something like the 'Escort' function in the Mission Editor, I'm not sure as I generally don't use that feature.

Im not an air guy...but didnt the us navy and air force use different interfaces (nozzles and such) for many years, preventing them from using one anothers tankers?

They still do. The USN uses probe-and-drogue refuelling, while the USAF uses booms. However, some KC-135s have been retrofitted with a drogue to allow refuelling of USN and foreign aircraft.
