Offense Changping by Nikolai Ezhov

A fictitious campaign between the Coalition Forces(NATO + Russia) and China People's Liberation Army(PLA) in central China area.
Terrain modified from the scenario <<XUZHOU 1948>>.

Backgrounds - timeline:

2008 - The financial crisis turned into a global economical disaster. Ultra-nationalism in China grew.
2010.7 - The Russo-China relationship broke down. Anti-Russia movements arose in China. Russian found Siberia threatened by China.
2010.12 - The United States decided that the Communist Party of China(CPC) could no longer hold the growing ultra-nationalism -- which was then transforming into extremely right - wing fanaticism, which confirmed the necessity of force intervention.
2011.2 - Military staffs from both the US and RU Armed Force decided the invasion plan -- codenamed Project Hannibal.
2011.8 - The General Staff Department of People's Republic of China defined Offense Plan Chibi, which aimed to repel the assuming Russian Invasion and then to take (literately "retake") Vladivostok.
2011.9.11 - A train loading the representative attending the 3rd phrase for the demarcation of the Russian-Chinese border was blew up. 126 people were killed, 68 more wounded. It was alleged that Russian Spetznaz personnel should be responsible for this terrorist attack, however the truth that never been disclosed was that the criminals were four PLA officers (one major, two captains and a lieutenant, who were all extreme nationalists) without the directive from any authority or organization.
2011.9.21 - Both RU and PRC began partly mobilization.
2011.9.26 - The first phrase of Project Hannibal -- Operation Carpathian-Alps -- was a go. Russian tank crossed Russo-Chinese border. Beijing lost to Russian VDV troops.
2011.9.27 - The Offense Chibi, started late last night, was a miserable failure. 3 PLA Armies in Shenyang MD were almost destroyed.
2011.9.29 - The first NATO unit -- the US 3rd MEF landed south of Shanhaiguan.
2011.10.12 - the PLA 16th, 39th and 40th Army were destroyed north of Shanhaiguan.
2011.10.15 - The second phrase of Project Hannibal -- Operation Bug-Donets -- was a go. The Third US Army (composing of US III Corps(1AD, 1CD, 1ID, 4ID), US VI Corps(3AD, 26ID, 27ID), US XVIII Corps(10MD, 82ABD, 101AAD, 25ID)) advanced south toward Jinan.
2011.10.19 - UK forces -- the 1st UK Armoured Division -- landed in Tanggu. So did 3 brigades of Army of Czech Republic: 4th Rapid-Deployment Brigade "Edvard Benes", 7th Mechanized Brigade "Jan Zizka" and 9th Armored Brigade "Ludvík Svoboda".
2011.10.27 - Xuzhou lost to the RU 2nd Guard Tank Army, while Handan was taken by the US III Corps. III Corps advanced deeper south in order to seize Xuzhou.
2011.11.1 - Offense Changping began.

*Many units are considered as mobilizing units, which are not exist in the real.

The war in China have been 35 days -- 35 days that the PLA forces facing a miserable disaster. The whole area of northern China have lost, and since the Armies defending Manchuria being wiped out, it is only a matter of time when the Dongbei provinces will fall to the Russian's hand. In central China, the Coalition Forces lead by the Third United States Army (III Corps, V Corps, XVIII Corps) is advancing south to take the Bridgehead of Nanjing and the port of Lianyungang. On October 29th, Kaifeng, Luoyang and Dezhou fell to the Coalition simultaneously, the defeat of 43rd and 54th Army in the west spoiled the whole defense plan of the PLA Army Group Huanghuai, and the flank of the PLA armies in the east were compromised too. To make the things worse, the newly constructed Long River defense line is far from complete, the Army Group must hold fast before the line from Wuhan to Shanghai is fully operational.
During the last days of October, the PLA had concentrated 4 armies in the East front in order to rescue the 26th and 67th Army surrounded in Shandong peninsula. However after the fall of Luoyang the PLA had to abandon Jining and the rescue plan itself to retreat further to Xuzhou, therefore the PLA forces in Xuzhou area was dramatically added to 6 armies and a corps. Thus, General Huang Wanping, commander of PLA Army Group Huanghuai, planned for an offense operation in this theater to annihilate the US III Corps.
The Coalition had some clues about the concentration ahead of Xuzhou-Nanjing axis, but was never clear of its purpose. By November 1st the US III Corps are divided into 2 axis and advanced along both side of Weishan Lake, which favored the PLA's plan, as then the Chinese Forces can destroy them separately.
On this battlefield of less than 40 thousand square kilometers the PLA commits 6 Armies, 1 Corps, 4 Divisions composing of 3000 tanks, 5800 APCs and 5500 artillery pieces! The Coalition Forces also have 1400 latest tank, 4550 APCs and 2700 artillery pieces. This battle will definitely determine the fate of China and all Chinese people.
Early on November 1st 2011, As the PLA Special Forces sabotaged the bridge connecting both sides of the Weishan Lake, Offense Changping is a go!

TOE:

The TOE of PLA Armies is terribly complicated, that means both in reality and in this scenario, typically in reality. In fact, some elite heavy units will operate the oldest tanks (e.g., 113rd MechDiv. is still operating the first variant of Type-59 tank) , some newly formed type-B formation may have modern type-96 or type-99 tank (e.g. 235th MechBde.); some units operates the newest tank and the oldest APC (235th MechBde., Type-99 tank + Type-63 APC); some just the opposite; sometimes a Motorized formation (which means it uses trucks to transport troops) even have IFVs instead of trucks, however still holding the organization of a motorized unit(4 infantry battalions and 1 tank battalion of 51 tanks comparing with 4 infantry battalions and 2 tank battalions of 31 tanks each)...I've tried my best to "recreate" the existing armies' organization in the middle of 2011(as the PLA are undergoing a large-scale reforming during these years, organizations and designations are changing almost every month) and "mock up" the fictitious mobilizing armies, divisions and brigades, but it is just base on my own knowledge and assumption.

Equipment:

As there are many omissions in TOAW's default equipment list, I have to make my own .eqp file to add about 5 dozen of equipment (such as HMMWV, Stryker and varies of PLA vehicles). There is also some fictitious equipment which didn't make it into service in reality, however may do in a world of total conflict, e.g.:
HMMWV CKEM SPATGM: A HMMWV equipped with Lookheed-Martin CKEM Kinetic Energy Anti-tank Missile to replace TOW missile.
F-35B
AH-64E: also armed with CKEM
M1A3: M1A1 Abrams with digital modification

Works to do:

1/ More news to be designed

2/ Theater Opinions
Coaltion Forces:
1)
Commit 1st MEF
Turn 10-15
1st Marine Expeditionary Force arrived at Jinan on November 9th to help the Russian 29th Army to secure the Shandong peninsula. If requested, it may divert south to save the Army boys' ass in two days(turns). However it's not yet decided how much VP penalty it should cost.

3/ Balance not yet tested
