[Q] Central radar locations in Command

Post by dandin384 »

Have a question with a scenario I'm building and I'm curious if this was ever done in real life and whether or not it's modeled in Command.

I've placed 4 SA-6 (http://wiki.baloogancampaign.com/index.php/DataFacility?ID=243) SAM Bn's down and removed their Fire Dome [9S35] and Straight Flush [1S91] FCR's. In another location I've placed two radars, one Squat Eye radar (http://wiki.baloogancampaign.com/index.php/DataFacility?ID=1325)and one Chair Back FCR (http://wiki.baloogancampaign.com/index.php/DataFacility?ID=1655). Will the 4 SAM Bn's be able to fire using only those radars? I'm trying to model a situation where the number of SAM launchers is plentiful but radars are in shorter supply, so the sites have all been linked to one well defended location. Is this possible in game?

Probably not. In real operation, the SA-6 is launched from the 1S91 control cabin, not from the TEL (this is largely because the missile is command-guided for most of its flight, and needs to communicate with the FCR before launch). I also suspect that there is an electronic interlock in the TELs to prevent them from firing without a command vehicle being attached, though this might be removed as a field expedient.

It's possible that the SARH all the way Buk system could launch with an external illumination source, though, but it certainly isn't part of the standard (or approved) operational regime.
