With dozens of new features, new art, and engine improvements, War In Spain 1936-39 is the most realistic and engrossing WWII-era European theater game available.
The most historical and detailed order of battle for the Spanish Civil War ever put into a wargame!
The map scale of 5 nautical miles per hex provides a sense of immersion and interaction rarely encountered in Operational/Strategic Level games. With TO&Es and combat resolution down to the individual vehicle, aircraft, gun and squad level, the game covers the entire Spanish Civil War period at the Division, Brigade, Regiment, Battalion and even Company Level. This includes individual aircraft, ground equipment and ships from Spain, Soviet Union, Germany, Italy and others.
War In Spain 1936-39 allows the player to experience one of the most hard fought conflicts history has seen through Land, Sea and Air combat.
The War on the Ground
Both sides start with small, battalion and company level units, including many unorganized militia units. However, eventually both sides can build up their units into Regiments, Brigades and Divisions, thus fielding true WWII-like organizations. Engineers, base support units, truck units, cart and wagon units are represented as well as Infantry, armor, artillery and cavalry. Unique home grown armored car units are also present. A detailed rail system moves supply as well as troops.
The War At Sea
While not on the scale of later WWII naval combat, the naval theater played an important role in the Spanish Civil War. The unparalleled realism in War In Spain 1936-39 has both sides using their merchant fleets to bring in supplies from their supporting countries. A new naval combat board shows the ship locations on the sea as they engage each other in battle. All surface guns, AA guns, ASW weapons are individually represented. Each ship’s crew has an experience rating for day and night combat. Every ship from battleships down to gunboats has a commander with his own strengths and weaknesses. The game includes 100s of ships chosen from dozens of ship classes.
The War in the Air
A wide variety of aircraft are included in the game, ranging from awkward biplanes to the early versions of the Bf-109. Pilots and crews are tracked separately from aircraft and have individual skill, experience, and fatigue ratings. When pilots are in short supply, they can be placed into the pilot pool and reassigned to other groups using an intuitive and advanced pilot pool system.
