last test run
okay here are some screens from the last test run I was doing
playing as the Union in Southern Steel
there had been some complaints, that maybe my success is too based on HW, so this game has mainly been QC and IC (the last two combats were too good to pass up, so were HW, with the AOP and ANV in James River)
at times the unit loc on the map is HARD to be sure where everything is at
the ANV is now in Fredericksburg, I have sent 2 Corps to finish it off
the AOP (all 3) is parked in James River
another Corps and the Army of Kentucky have moved into Lynchburg to stop the Western CSA forces that have been trying to rejoin with the ANV
(just in case, Virg is mine, other then Fredericksburg)
out West, the CSA has a decent force parked at Nashville, and I have about the same size force sitting right about it, and for the most part, they are sitting on the fence watching each other, neither really being strong enough to force the issue
Grant and his Army has been takeing a rest out in Ark, and it may be time to get a fire lit under his butt and start him moving again

RE: last test run
Part of my two Corps headed into Fredericksburg
the only two that I changed there flags
funny, I only have 4 Lorenzs and 3 of them are here, I also have 8 Withworths, and 4 of them are also here
the White Flag Corps should be nasty if it gets into battle, half of it is Armed with Spencer Rifles

Crudwell
battle of Fredericksburg, 60,824 Union vs 50,774 CSA (no Forts left here)
open and wooded, but the CSA gets off a surprise attack

RE: last test run
this is going to be a very confused battle, no line of fire, all close range
hassle is to get my disordered troops out of the front of the battle and back into control, and open up some lanes of fire for my Heavy Stuff and my long range stuff, and close in with my Spencers and Bart
right now, the CSA has the better Terrain and postion, but I do not think it knows it, and will start to move, giving me the edge

RE: last test run
and it was a well thought out trap
the CSA could not stand toe to toe with my Massive Firepower edge, and as the terrain was so close, it was pretty much one on one, and they could not use there surprise to cut off and hammer each unit
the ANV is now dead
even better, they pulled in some troops from Lynchburg
21 CSA Bdes are out of the fight, and Virg is mine
now to shift the AOPs south for seige work, while the fighting Corps move West to hunt down the remaining CSA forces

RE: last test run
the end is near, most of the Containers shown on the map for the CSA are nothing
just one combat group in Tenn, and a 3 Bde Army in the south
but it is Dec now, so I may not get all of my moves off
once I can free the Slaves, the points the CSA is getting from Diplo will go away and that may be enough to make them see that the war is lost
if not, I will show them in the spring

RE: last test run
ratsafata
had to start building lots of Hosps, my coverage was lousy once I went on the move
doing lots of seiges
defeat the CSA Corps in Tenn, and sit back to wait for my troops to move in and close the gap
score was up to 22 Union to -6 for the CSA, when the CSA Corps moved out, and slipped down and hit the Army of Kentucky, which has been in a few seiges and taken some pounding, and it took another one from the CSA, it retreated into Knockville (A New Div has join it, which should balance out the power, plus it has gotten a major overhall of weapons, most muskets handed over for Enfields)
Murphysburro has fallen, but those 2 Corps need some rest and replacement troops, before they get into a major action
but, my Shock Corps in moving into place
the Army of Ill is close, but has been hammered with sickness so is resting in Hosp range
score is now 16 to 0

RE: last test run
ahhh
Battle for Knocksville
close in numbers, my new Div Marched in, just in time, but the CSA got off a Surprise attack and broke two Bdes on the opening charges, but, to the good, my New Div was to the side of the opening round, so there firepower is still a factor
already lost 2 points off of the WTF, before the battle even starts

RE: last test run
well now, this is getting to be a good little battle
the Army of Kentucky is getting crushed, but the Div from Ohio is holding it's own
then the rains came, and the CSA has better bullets then I do !
the troops were 9 good 8 routed for the Union and 10 good and 4 routed for the CSA
I called for help, I need bodies on the field, to stop my side from panicing, the next round, the boys from Ohio come though and the rate is 10-8 for the Union and 8-1-5 for the CSA
if I can route two more of the CSA troops, then I got a chance for panic to take over and save the day for me, as the Army of Ill is in worse shape then the Army of Kentucky was

RE: last test run
Well, I had to pull deep into my bag of tricks for this one
there are not many moble CSA troops around, but the ones there are, are full and good, with decent weapons and good leadership
my boys from Ohio Saved the day, but took a good pounding, those Spencers came in handy
of course, with out the Army of Ill showing up when they did, my Ohio Boys wouldn't of had the time to turn the tide
Good Battle
Score is back to 21 to -2

I am still trying to determine how to use the 'Center Unit on Hex' mechanism. Seems that the blue arrow is backwards and that the troops move oddly. Must read and try this more often.

HARD SARGE IN "ALMOST LOOSES HEX BATTLE" SHOCKER!
new at what ever time it is in your part of the world.
nice battle shot at the start, looks like real chaos. only been able to play one battle so far (the bull run one at the start of every campain) and definatly noticed the new AI, it kept on going for the right, rarther than charging on in like the old AI.

[:-]
going into the battle, I knew I had support if needed, but was hopeing to not have to use it
which the surprise attack ruined any plans I had, and I had still hoped to hang in, but they were hitting HARD, so had to bring in some help
the CSA Corps pulls out and heads into Murphysburo, I follow, and then move out into Pudluk (?) I follow again
my 2 seiges on the coast are done, North Car is mine
the final battle for the South begins
my Best Corps vs the best or the last Corps of the CSA
Spencer Rifles, Withworths, 4 Gun Bdes, plus got some new tech, I got a few of the new Gattlings
(Spencers, Bart and Gattlings are nasty at pointblank range)
the last battle is a slaughter, the CSA was brave and close the range and rushed the Guns, only the Guns were ready, along with the Gattlings
the war ends, the slaughter is too much
