That's not Princeton. That there is an Essex, so I'm going to go with the Bunker Hill or the Franklin.

A pic of the results of the KB [:)]. My WAG would be US carrier at Midway, looks to be some a/c at stern with folded wings so it may be a later attack of US maybe Kamikaze attack later in war.

You can see the two double 5" turrets ahead of the island, so that makes it an Essex.

Jeez, that looks nasty. Can't be Princeton being hit by a kamikaze; she never was hit by a kamikaze. However, it does look to me like a kamikaze, with that big ball of flame. The 5in mounts could also be Sara, but I think we'll agree it's an Essex. Just to be different, I'll guess it's Ticonderoga.

From the position of the fireball it looks more like Bunker Hill, Franklin got hit more aft, while BH was hit closer to the island.
F4U Corsair; When you Absolutely, Positively need to kill every freaking Zero in a 40 mile hex....

The picture was taken from the USS Langley (CVL-27); the attack took place in late November 1944.
