Something up with Attacks

Post by VictorCharlie »

I have a spotted US artillery unit and try to do a ranged attack on it with my German artillery unit. Odds are 150 to 1 range, sounds good. So attack but nothing happens, not even 1 truck hit?
I have seen this a few times now, is it a bug?

I also had a regular attack 333 to 1, same again nothing happens, is this working as it should?

Could you provide a save from this specific turn or was it during a PBEM?

Btw, Happy New Year 2023!

Ok I've attached save and pic.

It was the 2 rocket artillery north of Sevening which I moved to 118,64 then firing at the US 559'

Attack odds were 150 to 1 for one unit, other over 100, but no result?

I have seen some odd artillery results with German artillery as well. Particularly nebelwerfers producing pretty minimal results despite large odds.

Old thread but same problem. Playing as Germans agains AI in Plan Martin, Turn of the Tide and Wacht am Rhein, I see the strange zero damage attacks. The odds can be even up to 100:1, and no damage. Especially for arty, but also in regular attacks. Next turn the attacks can be "normal" again with expected damage. It is just not some attacks, it goes for almost all attacks during the turn (especially arty) Looks like turns starting 18:00 and 00:00 are the ones, but I have not "studied" the matter more yet. Anyway it is very annoying.
Otherwise I really love the game, I played the old WachtAmRhein called TAO 2.4.0 in beginning of 2000. Still miss the red button and the visible dice lol. And using the replacement pool was easier too.

I read up on the manual even more, and now I know night is time to rest and not attack to accumulate readiness. Not so easy to keep the troops in good shape.

Played through Wacht am Rhein scenario as Axis, it was a loss, 135VP, 140 needed for minor victory. Losses in power points 58,9K, for allies 114,3K.

Never reached Bastogne, but got to the line Rotgen - Malmedy - (1hex from) Spa - La Gleize - Trois Ponts - Vielsalm - Gouvy - Tavigny - Noville - Wiltz - Eschdorf - Merzig - Ettelbruck - Junglinster.

Have to make another try, the learning curve is still upwards.

Some strange regular attacks up north, attackin for 5 round the same 5 point artillery with odds from 20-67, every attack zero damage to arty.

Next game, again as Axis, normal difficulty, no hidden units. This time a major victory with 203 VP, losses for Axis 70258, for Allies 131296.
Got as far as the suburbus of Liege - Sprimont - Borlon - Soy - almost Hotton - Werpin - Bande - Mierchamp - Ourtheville - Murlet - Sainlez (5VP for this small nearly noticeable village) - Harlange - Grevils - Grosbous - Merzig - Bissen - Junglinster.

Still hard to keep the troops in shape although nighttime I move mostly only green ones. Emergency units helps a bit to keep other units manned.
Could not imagine to play this in hard mode.

Select-new-one, et al...

The Arty's/Rocket's AMMO box (bottom right of tile) is grey -- i.e out of ammo. THAT is prolly reason for no damage and the weird /buggy odds readout.
Images should be easier to load at Matrix.
