Italy has no units to reorganize bug- a mean one
Hi there,
a year into a solitaire global war game I have encountered a little bug here, a little bug there. Mostly things that could be fixed by going back to a saved game a step or so back.
But now a have run into a real deal/ game breaker:
In the use oil ( for reorganisation ) step a pop up window told me that Italy had no units to reorganize. Having used the whole Italien fleet in the turn I sorta knew I was in for trouble but proceeded.
As expected no units were reorganized. I´ve tried every work around I can think of. Played the subesequent term again. Played on the next turn without the italien disorganized units hoping for opportunity to use oil in the next step. No chance - the game refuses to identify Italien units in need of reorg/ oil.
I have the suspicion that the whole problem might be connected to another "bug" concerning the Persian oil. When Russia declares war on Persia and it aligns to Italy the oil recources are shown as available to Italy in the use oil step, which due to lack of convoys etc. doesn´t seem right. If you try to use the oil anyhow you get an error report but can play on.
I´ve tried it all ways but am under the impression that from this point on Italy is reduced to a few non oil dependent units, which sorta blows the game.
I´d greatly appreciate help. Until this is fixed I dare not use the oil rule.
Thanks

Could you please put a saved game in here from before the oil reorganisation phase.
Zip it and load it up the forum.

I'll be glad to do so on the 17th. For reasons of frustration - if I can't sail the Italien Fleet, I might as well go sailing - I booked a short holiday in the sun.
Best regards

Hi Peter,
having returned and actually rather tanned please find attached a zipped file in which the "bug" can be seen. I´ve taken the sequence to Oil Reorganisation so that you can quickly see were the problem lies (at the surface that is).
Furthermore I´ve fiddled around quite a bit and managed to both avoid the persian oil crash and the whole bug. I only used the 1 saved oil that Italy at the point. So with a little luck I might be able to salvage the game. Anyhow I am now convinced that the problem must lie with the described Persian oil problem.
Best regards

It's a bug. I don't seem to find how this is possible. There isn't anything which should deny Italy to use the Persian oil for reorganisation...

RE: Italy has no units to reorganize bug- a mean one
It's not a bug for re-org but more of a cosmetic bug that the game is reporting "no units disorganized" for Italy. The game options show LOS is on and there's no supply path to the Persian oil. No overseas path and you can't trace supply through neutral countries. I see no oil stored in Italy.
Edit: The quickest way to fix the game in progress is to lend some oil to Italy from Germany but that means the disorganized ships won't re-org for two more turns. Maybe conquering Syria and aligning Iraq would be quicker...

You are right. I didn't check for limited overseas supply to be on...

Hi guys, it isn´t cosmetic. I´ve just spent 10 hours+ in good faith (I got through may / june without the bug) sorta reproducing the game I was playing. And bingo - there it is again - " ITALY HAS NO UNITS TO REORGANIZE ":
I´ll post it tomorrow - at this point I´m to tired and to sorta pissed to even zip a file.
As Italy had received oil from germany in my replay reorg. would have been possible. The problem is that if you get the message above, you can not use oil. This means no Italy!!!
The nature of computers = BUGS
But as I said in the beginning - " This is a mean one!"
Cheers

Did Italy receive the oil this same turn? If it did, you cannot use it for Re-org until next turn, because that's how the sequence of play works. There's a lot more to playing with the oil rules than people first realize.
Yes computers have bugs but it's further complicated by the fact that this game has lots of complicated (indeed finicky) rules.
I saw no oil saved in Italy with the saved game you posted, so I'm assuming you played up to the same point and only sent the oil this same turn. If that's wrong, then please elucidate or post another saved game.
Thanks.
Edit: And I said "cosmetic" not to demean your situation, but I do think what's happening is the program see's no useable oil and defaults to that message as opposed to something more informative. Currently there's a bug report on file to Steve to that effect and I'm happy to amend it if different info is forthcoming.

Hi there,
I wish you are right. This can be checked although I was under the impression that oil provided under a trade agreement was available in the same term.
Nevertheless I fear that the pop up saying " Italy has no disorganized units " ( that´s the exact phrasing - didn´t pay attention to that until now ) could mean that the programm much more fails to see that there are Italien units in need of reorganisation and therefore denies one the possibility to use oil.
I´ve attached an autosave file of the game in german use oil phase so it´s more or less one click away from the bug.
Thanks and best regards

Understanding Error Message
Kathi51!,
The Italy has no disorganized units to reorganize message may mean that Italy has no disorganized units that can be reorganized by oil because you have no oil saved up. One thing to bear in mind when sending oil from Germany to Italy is to use saved oil points to send to Italy, then since they're already saved they're immediately available for reorganization. So if you need oil for reorganization in a hurry then have Germany send saved oil points in his Preliminary Production Phase. Then you can use them for reorganization later in the end turn phase.

RE: Understanding Error Message
Omnius, you may very well be right that the game will work that way, but, alas, that would be a bug too.
The simple fact is that by the rules of the game, whether the source is an oil resource hex or a stored oil marker when you lend it - it arrives after the lendee's re-org phase and is unuseable for that function until the next turn.

RE: Understanding Error Message
I'll fix the message so it explains the situation better.
Thank you Paul for figuring this all out.[&o][&o]
EDIT: The new message:
rsNoneToReorganize = '%s has no disorganized units which: (1) require oil ' +
'to be reorganized and (2) can reach an oil resource.';
In this case Italy controls 3 oil resources in Persia but the only disorganized unit which can reach them is a cavalry unit, which does not need oil to be reorganized.

Yes I checked the game file and Germany is lending the oil but it has not gotten to Italy in time for the re-org phase. Not a bug.

Hi Paul,
acting on your advice I went on and you are right. In due time Italy could use the german oil for reorganisation.
NO BUG!
Thank you kindly and pardon my crying wolf prematurely.
An edit of the pop up should furthermore help prevent others from drawing the same - mistaken - conclusions as I.
