suggestions for Mexican War scenario

Post by vaalen »

Greetings, all.

I posted a similar message in the wrong forum. I now realize that this is the right one for suggested new features.

I have very much enjoyed the Mexican War scenario. I do have a couple of suggestions.

Artillery in this scenario seems to be the same for both the Americans and the Mexicans. However, the American artillery in this war was much more effective, and far more mobile, with one exception. I suggest that US artillery units be able to move and fire in the same turn. This would account for the exceptional mobility of the US artillery.

The exception would be the Mexican artillery used by the San Patricio battallion, which was formed from Irish deserters from the US forces. They may have been the most effective unit in the Mexican army, and used artillery very effectively. They could also move and fire in the same turn, and they should appear by an event which might trigger when the US forces have suffered a certain amount of casualties.

Regards,

Vaalen

My other suggestion would be to have a special leader unit for Robert E Lee. This unit would have a long scouting range. He also should retain this long range even if he moves more than once in the turn.
Lee did not actually lead troops in this war. He acted as a special scout for General Scott. He would usually go out alone to scout the area Scott wanted him to investigate, sometimes taking a single soldier with him. He was incredibly effective as a scout, and was never caught, even though he came close.

I do not know if these ideas can be implemented without making difficult changes to the coding, but if they can be implemented without too much trouble, they would certainly add even more flavor to the game, and recreate some real advantages.
