New feature request

Post by Rays1 »

Hey all. Noob here.[8|]

Request an Auto Move option.
An ability to set timing on movement to a hex. Say you can pre-select certain titans to move in a group.. and to either arrive at a hex at the same time.. or individual hexes at the same time.
Or have a move to- then time-- and the minimum would be the fastest time the slowest/furthest titan can reach said hex.
I guess the most important would be that it would automatically calculate the extra time the terrain would effect movement speed.
Also or instead of.. Have a titan assigned as a leader and the other titans would follow as AI.

Just a few idearrrs.

BTW.. been a fan since my Amiga 1000[;)]

Thanks for your interest. I'm only doing small changes and your request will take to much effort for too little gain. Sorry.

OK. No prob. Maybe I just planted a seed?

Another neat feature that may not be too much trouble?
Being able to select a custom size for the random maps? Like you can in the editor?
I'm of the opinion the larger the map the better.
I would love to be able to make at least a 99x99 or larger map.

Great job btw on the mods you are doing.

The larger the play area the more room you have for outflanking the enemy.
And a less of a chance of being cornered at the edge of the play field

Ok. Will think about adding a feature to select mapsize. Won't hurt and isn't too much work. [;)]

K Thanks man.[8D]
I apologize if I seem annoying with suggestions.
Just now that I'm able to reach someone who has the power to maybe implement them.[&o] I'm fairly excited.

I was playing yesterday and another one came to me.
It was something that the MechForce game on the Amiga had.
Not sure how feasible it is. But I found it interesting.

The game had a mountain height hex. It was too high for any titan to reach. So it acted as a wall or column.
And it also had a super deep water hex. It would crush any titan the fell/ventured into it.

Again I don't expect any suggestions to be used. Just throwing out ideas hoping maybe some might stick.
Thanks alot. Really.

Maybe just increase the height limit of hills that can spawn in random maps. Add another parameter, hill height (0-100%).

I'm not sure I'd like unpassable water hexes. Water's plenty of a deterrent to not simply plow through it unless you jump over it. I'd like the rivers in random maps to be able to be wider, though. There was this campaign map which was like near a river delta, full of swamps, lots of water, and what little land there was available was thickly jungled. I loved that map, it was an absolute nightmare.

That was the beauty of the bottomless hex. You had to calculate the jump time so you don't fall in. Or you're sol if you don't have jump jets.

My pleasure. I was too lazy to code it so you can set the values ingame. I always play on smaller maps so there was no urgent need to spend too much time with it.

Another idea came to mind.
How bout a smoke screen ability? Like a smoke generator?
It would place smoke in the hex of the titan. It would blind the titan that activated it and hide them from other titans as long as you remain in the hex. It could operate in the same manner as flares. Just wouldn't require firing a cannon into the hex.
Just throwing out the idea.

Thought of something else the amiga version had.
The ability to jettison ammo. Something that comes in handy when facing a serious overheat situation and a matter of survival as opposed to blowing up.

Ammo blowing up is something I like and which is also good to balance cannons versus energy weapons. They become to good otherwise. No risk, no fun.

Aye!  Checks and balances must be maintained.  You can't argue with a cannon.  You can block energy.

In the Map Editor, when you load a saved map to continue working on it and to modify it, (as far as I know) it isn't possible to delete woods, rubble, or buildings from hexes that already contain them. You can only change hexes containing woods, rubble, or buildings into hexes containing either woods, rubble, or buildings.

LarkinVB, is there any chance that you could add a new button (function) in the Map Editor that can delete woods, rubble, and buildings from hexes? This would make using the Map Editor hassle free, and it would save me from having to start my map all over again just to change a few hexes that I'm not happy with or that I want to reposition.

Delete woods/buildings etc by selecting fill, any topping, then deselecting the six images beneath the hex selection. These images are taken as a topping while selected. If all six are selected a random of these six is chosen, if only one is selected this specific image is chosen, if none is selected no topping will be placed. Another method is to mark an empty hex and paste it.

Would it be difficult to add a chance for buildings to appear in random maps?

Not difficult to add some grafics, more difficult to add functionality (repair ...), even more difficult to create building related mission objectives.
