the enemy sent another two CVs up to the solomons... into death. 5th carrier division is heavily busy, but very successfull in this. The emperor himself announced a visit at Truk to greet & decorate these brave men!

RE: the chase

Post by RGIJN »

the chase for the USN netted more victims. First, at night another mid-ocean battle folded since we sent battlegroup 2 with two fast BBs, two CAs, two CLs and nine destroyers to the site of the air raids the day before. And -surprise- we ran right into several USN formations and fought it out with them. At least 10 enemy DDs were sunk and many more ships badly shot up. Our own ships suffered some damage too, one DD had to be scuttled (with another probable), one BB heavily burning from numerous 8" shells & limping back to the Shortlands plus one CL "met" a mine... But overall, another great night battle amidst the vast seas south of Guadalcanal. What a nautic achievement by our skilled men!

At day, A/C took off to deliver another pounding. HORNET is reported sunk, and regrettably many bombs & torpedoes were flown thru the air in vain since targets had slipped beneath the waves already...

Again, our submarine force contributed alot to this great success. The second battle south of Guadalcanal was a decisive victory to the Empire of Japan.

Iron Bottom Sound - confirmed

Post by a1981stingray »

SS Capt Davy Jones has sent word that South of the Solomon Islands is solid iron.... other sub captains report hearing sounds of twisted metal grinding and sometimes an ammo explosion from remaining powder magazines as the wrecks shift and slide deeper into the trenches of the ocean.

the USN decided to press on and brought up her fifth fleet carrier - the mighty old SARATOGA. After her A/C had sunk two transports off Lunga piers last turn, we ordered CarDiv 5 again back to the scene to deal with this. Though all squadrons were only half-replenished (due to lack of replacements) the sheer superior numbers made it out. SARA is reprorted lost with all hands and 83 A/C. Own casualties: about ten B5N Kates and a medium damaged CVL + light cruiser.

Unfortunately, the Sake supply ship is delayed due to zigg-zagging in anticipation of enemy submarines. We orderes them to proceed flank speed ahead, straight for the Shortlands. Our sailors & pilots throats are dried out after weeks at sea, with no pause sinking enemy ships...

Only one USN CV (the WASP) is somewhere waiting for orders to get into range.

another battle

Post by RGIJN »

Obviously, CV WASP was on its way up to Espiritu Santo. A minor CV battle folded, with our CVs out of torpedo range, unfortunately. However, the last remaining enemy carrier should be ripe for immediate westcoast overhaul now...

With this thread pushed aside, we bombed the enemy heavily and interfered all his convoy efforts the next three days. Many ships were reported wrecks.

obviously - the only chatter that could be heard over the Allied radios was "Abandon ship! All hands, Abandon Ship! Repeat this is NOT a drill! Abandon ship! All hands, Abandon Ship!"

The Skipper, Gilligan, and the Professor of the SS Minnow happened to make it to shore along with the passengers, Marie Ann, Ginger, and Mr. and Mrs. Howell...

recently, even more allied vessels made it to their new wettish home beneath the waves. About 4...5 Oilers and several AP/AKs were reported sunk.

One such victim (an always stricken Oiler that was limping back to port) was caught by one of our submarines lurking around... Since the Allies are considered short of sufficient escorts (especially DDs which were sunk in decent numbers) the Seas will become even more fruitful for us now.

classic surface attack, with some shells pumped into the hull, followed by two 21" Torpedoes...

One of our floatplanes equipped with photo-recon gear brought back home this stuff.... Shows the sinking of an enemy heavy cruiser, south of Guadalcanal.

BTW, we still send out dozens of barges in an effort to pick up the drowning sailors and save as many as possible. They will receive a shot of Sake as first aid....

the imperial submarine force continues to strike allied shipping on their routes to supply the starving garrisons... This tanker made it to the "total loss" list today.

...while we try to fend off another wolfpack heading into our territory. We guess these S-type boats are loaden to the conning towers with deadly mines...

keeping the enemy on the ground

Post by RGIJN »

recently, some minor fleets visited the Hebrides area. We sent two bombardment TFs into Luganville and achieved some nice results (the enemy already abandoned the airstrip there a while ago).

After staging some wolfpacks into the Solomons, the Allies lost several subs (at least 4) in the last few weeks. Many were pounded by air attack, the remaining ones are either crawling back home or stalled at ports open to our pummeling....
