Possible to label units or see IDs?

Post by gcbisset »

Im using the game to play miniatures, and my only problem is that the units are not labeled. It makes it very difficult to track what has happened to each unit.

Probably the computer assigns numbers to the units. Is there any way to see that number? It is possible in some games in debug or some other special mode.

Or, has anyone produced OOBs where each platoon has a seperate ID?

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I too would like to be able to have an accounting or track record of each unit. I think it would be cool to harvest stats from each game (especially the longer/larger scenarios), to find out which platoons / units scored the most eliminations or disruptions. It could then be used to register achievements or badges or unit 'awards'.

I've tracked battles using a spreadsheet (I know .. very geeky) and was able to track overall casualties for battalions. Each unit does have a unique organization placement which can be viewed in the unit viewer dialog. But to really track what happened to a particular unit, you have to either memorize each one, or capture a screen shot each turn and mark it up with the unit ID, then watch every single shot of a replay to record what happened.

A programmatic way to collect stats, or a mod that generates after action reports that you can then export to something like excel would be very cool.

Each unit is assigned a unique tracking # (e.g., the 5th field in the .btl/.bte file "0" unit lines). But it's for game engine internals only, no way to display it normally within game. You could try inspecting the .btl/.bte files as you go along, but good luck trying to make sense of them, and what all the numbers mean. The data file "format" is, to the unpracticed eye, rather formless. And varies by file version number (the very first line in each .btl/.bte file). Cryptic to say the least.

In future, and for future games in the Series, we might reveal the unit tracking IDs in the F2 Unit Handbook display (or by some other means). But not for JTCS, which has been end-of-lifed.
