Warplan Games

Post by jeffk3510 »

I asked over in the Warplan forum about the Pacific vs compared to AE.

I did get quite a few good responses.

I was just curious from this crowd if anyone has played it, and how they would compare it back to AE?

Like I mentioned over there, I have a love hate with AE and the giant micromanagement time suck, but I love the majority of what the game brings to the table.

Please let me know if you don't mind

Thanks

A lot of geographical oddities in the game. Yokohama is named Yakohoma, Eniwetok is Enewetak. Kyoto is named Fukui (which I think is the prefecture name) Henderson field is a port/airfield that is operational on the map from day one.

I found the blockade mechanism rather gamey. If you can successfully park some fleet units just outside of a port like Truk or Rabaul or Noumea for a few weeks, even a corps-sized garrison will wither away into dust due to lack of supply, and you can just walk in and occupy them. Seems to me the Japanese always found a way to stubbornly hang on even in the most isolated bases which is why they were often bypassed, and airpower was always the principal blockader.
