Microsoft Surface

Anybody play WITP AE on one of these? It's been a longstanding dream of mine to play my favorite 2D wargames on a tablet like this. I think it certainly has the horsepower, but I'm more concerned about usability. I don't know how easy/difficult it would be to play it with the pen and scrolling around, etc.

Thought I would update since I tried this out. TLDR, it doesn't work. Aside from the convenience issues associated with just using the stylus, the game doesn't appear to work well on Windows 10 with stylus hover events. As far as I can tell, this is related to the game's longstanding issues with DirectDraw deprecation. Basically the game is very slow without the DD software emulator turned on for some reason (--dd_sw), but with that enabled you get weird graphical effects anytime there is a pen hover event (i.e. when the pen is detected by the OS to be moving very close to the screen without touching it). Also, context-switching out from the game and back into it turns the in-game font into an unreadable mess.

Not really anyone's fault really, just the fact that the game was developed some time ago against an older graphics API, it seems.

Hmm, i play the game always with a wacom pen in a wacom table usb connected to my laptop, i don't use a mouse. But i am in W7.

Btw this is my oldest piece of hardware i have and still works. I bought it in 2001, Wacom pen and table still going near 2 decades. Only pen tip points have to be replaced due to use.

Yes, I did play WitP on my Surface Pro. I experienced no particular problem.
Have a look at this old post of mine:

Interesting! I assume this is on Windows 10? Did you have to use any switches when running the game?
