Possible bug found

Post by Admiral Delabroglio »

Hello

Trying to save the game with the name of an already existing save, I double-clicked on the old name in the list of saves.
When answering the question "this game already exists, do you..." with a "Yes", I got a warning "There was an error saving your game, army is not on the map : owning faction is British faction, army is located in Gibraltar, commander ig generic, army has 1 unit"

And then, the game won't save, even if I go back to the game and try again.

Not really blocking the game, you can exit, go back to the last save and redo the actions, but quite annoying of you try to save and fail after a dangerous battle won when it could easily have gone otherwise.

"Whenever there's a visible bug, there might be another one lurking hidden behind it"

Did I mention that it is a much underrated, splendid game ? Fun, simple enough and catching : "Just another turn and Austria will surrender..."

Yes, this definitely seems to be a bug, and I was able to partially reproduce it. I'll post more when I figure out what is happening.

As a work-around, you can click once on the particular entry in the list of saved games, rather than double clicking on it, and then you can click on the "Save" button. That will allow you to save the current game and overwrite the previous saved game with that file name. Of course, double clicking should function properly but it isn't.

Naturally, I am sorry that you encountered this problem, but I am glad that you are enjoying the game. The work-around above should work for you on the Same Game menu or in the save dialog within the game. The double click problem seems to exist in both places in the program.

Hello again

Nothing to worry about, I usually save all the games after a move (3 to 6 saves per turn) and use the same names, so after a while, a double click mistake was bound to happen, and knowing it, I make intermediary saves in the course of a huge battle.

Reproducing the double click save mistake, during a battle, I noticed that the computer considered all my stack to have been wiped out. So, possibly, when you double click by mistake on an already existing save, the program removes some or all the units stacks, and it causes an error in Gibraltar as the only way it could become empty of British units is if the IA moves the unit from there.

Good luck hunting the elusive bug...

Yes, I figured out what is happening. The game's logic has an error in processing double clicks from the saved game list, and the game's state is getting corrupted. Then, attempting another save fails as you have observed.
