Appreciate having historical flags represented, but I hope this new graphics set is provided as an alternative and not as the default set.

Have been traveling for work. Little time to play the game. I'll place a disclaimer in the original thread renouncing the rights for any of my work, so that it can be used by other modders or even commercially if wished.

Here you go -- not that the Sri Lankan flag has unusual dimensions that make it incompatible with the constraints that the graphics file demands, but I trust it's close enough.
All I ask in return is that if you have some kind of Tamil Tigers scenario that's been cooked up, I want a copy!

These files are for everybody -- THERE ARE FLAGS AND ROUNDELS IN HERE THAT MIGHT HAVE MASS APPEAL. Or Not.

How do you make a flag roundel?

How do you make a flag roundel?

Ain't rocket science by any means.

If you have paint.net or photoshop, do the following:

1. Google the artwork you'd like to be in the background of the roundel.
2. Use the roundel template attached to this message and open it in your favorite graphics program (photoshop or paint.net).
3. Create a new layer and place it UNDERNEATH the template.
4. Resize your artwork to 42 px in height and paste it underneath the template
5. Erase everything that is outside the circle of the template.
6. The game is partial to national flags in the roundels. But if you come across a flag that doesn't lend itself to the template, like say, Sri Lanka:

A great source is to google "Sri Lanka Air Force roundel", which gives you the insignia they put on their aircraft, which is usually round and based on the flag:

7. Then open the H_flag_roundels file and your new roundel over one of the blanks.
8. Reduce the image size of your roundel by 50% and open the flag_roundels image and do the same thing.
9. Note your roundels do NOT need to be round -- the game will place anything that fits in an area slighly larger than 42 px (say 45 px), no matter the shape (unlike flags, which must be rectangular and in thr exact dimensions of every other flag).

FLAG AND ROUNDEL UPDATE:

Had a few requests via PM, and updated the flags and roundels with those suggestions and others.
You should be able to copy this into your Graphics Override folder without affecting any of your previous scenarios with the following exceptions:
1. Scenarios featuring the fake and unhistorical German Army flag will be replaced by the historical flag of Nazi Germany.
2. For some reason, there were two United Nations flags and roundels. I replaced the second one with an "Inherent Resolve" flag and roundel. This may affect certain scenarios involving the UN, but it should be fixable by simply selecting the first UN flag and roundel.

The Flags and Roundels on the new files are as follows:

1. Copied OVER the fake German army flag and roundel is the historically accurate flag of Germany from WWII.
2. Copied OVER the 2nd UN flag and roundel is the "flag" and insignia of the insignia fron Operation: Inherent Resolve
Added are:
3. Flag/Roundel of Confederate States of America from May 1, 1863 - March 4, 1865 "The Stainless Banner"
4. Flag/Roundel of Confederate States of America from March 4, 1865 - Surrender "The Blood Stained Banner"

Would be lying if I said I didn't brag to my lawfully wedded wife that 13K post Curtis LeMay asked a question on the TOAW forums and I answered it. "Kind of like showing Jimmy Page a guitar lick," I explained helpfully.

Her reaction fell something short of the ecstatic high fives I felt I was richly deserving of.

I guess I should just take the win when that she accepts "Working from home, dear!" as an answer to "What are you doing on the computer?" when 50% of the time I'm playing TOAW.

By all means, request away! If there are a lot, let me know which ones you are not interested in and I can delete them to make room (Mordor or Inherent Resolve, for instance, might be niche flags).
