[1.20f] Distant worlds default to Hydrogen-helium-nitrogen atmosphere, ignore other flags

Post by Sitoutumaton »

Hello and apologies if this bug/feature was reported already here.

After getting the patch and DLC installed I went right away to test out new world generation to see what novel configurations I'd end up with. I ended up picking a world around blue-white A-class stars (38-4-something AU's away) and now I've had...

Three Unclassified-type worlds in total generated,
One of which I rerolled atmosphere for over ten times, other worlds couple times
All with Earth-like surface temperature, liquid water
Last world with alien life flagged and forced to happen

Yet I'm ending up with lifeless worlds with atmosphere consisting of hydrogen, helium and nitrogen (sometimes trace amount of fourth gas). Something in the new planet-gen seems to default at these ranges from the parent star to a fairly realistic if boring gas giant atmosphere.

A Class star you said? That means a very young Planet.. it hasn't had time yet to lose Helium and Hydrogen to space, nor for volcano's and other events to pump other gasses into its atmosphere. Try a Planet that is a bit older to get more variety in atmosphere.

I'll keep an eye out on the planet age next time, thanks!

It was the planet age. It seems Blue-White A-class parent star can only get planets that are 0.2 to 0.3 billion years old, sample size of perhaps hundred rerolls. Given that A-classes only have a lifetime of c. billion overall it'd probably get balmy towards the end.

I noticed a similar issue on v1.21b,
don't remember what kind of planet, but I'm certain that I had flagged :
ShadowEmpire_dvz95TxPNk.jpg
ShadowEmpire_dvz95TxPNk.jpg (22.36 KiB) Viewed 238 times
but then one (rare) reroll ended up as this :
ShadowEmpire_CgPufYEEfP.jpg
ShadowEmpire_CgPufYEEfP.jpg (176.86 KiB) Viewed 238 times
... which kind of violates the promise of that History Class ?

(Unless that description is wrong and/or the "life" in question is actually mechanical ??)

The flags do their utmost to push the algorithms towards desired outcome, but if it is truly impossible (or super super rare to occur) it might not work.

Ah, then I suggest to reword it to something like "it's much more likely that it manages to give birth to life".
